Two morals to the draft

- ( read Garlett and his ilk ) is to party, when you are in the AFL system - Not before you enter the system.
- Clubs spend $20m on their footy department but dont have the resources/aptitiude to help wayward, young talents. This is an indictment on AFL clubs.
I'm pretty sure clubs have the resources to look after someone like Garlett, but why would they take him knowing he has problems that could quite easily disrupt the players around him? It's no different to Fevola when Brisbane sacked him. He would have made a positive difference on the field, but also a negative one off it.

Yep, the clubs have the resources to look after players like Garlett.
However, if the player doesn't want it, why bother?

The point I am making, is that listed players (in the AFL system ) often party and muck up - The moral is be a choir boy before you are drafted and then it doesn't matter. How many years did Fevola last ?

With Fev, at which club are you talking about? :P

Times have changed and because of this I don't agree with your message. In recent years clubs have less and less tolerance for screw ups. Fev got sacked twice and then ignored by all clubs when he still had plenty to offer, Cousins was lucky to be given a second chance after he was sacked, these are players who were AA and club favourites! Top players are now getting suspensions for misdemeanors, repeat offenders are getting sacked (Connors, Gram etc). If 18 year olds are showing obvious signs before they're even drafted it's no wonder clubs aren't taking them in. Also someone like Murray Newman, you feel if he does something bad again he'll be sacked. Its not quite as simple as being safe once you're on a list. They might be given a chance or two, but a club won't hold onto them for long.

Do you read my post - Behave before you draft time or you won't be drafted.

I was more commenting on your "doesn't matter" line then using Fevola as an example. It matters a lot how players act once they're on a list. Maybe we're aguing the same thing but looking at it from different angles...

What I was inferring - Was that AFL players misbehave- And most is swept under the carpet.
