Karen Tighe (ABC) was almost in tears when she announced that Lleyton Hewitt was diagnosed with the Chicken Pox this morning and that Australia would forfeit their match tonight, giving Spain direct qualification to the final. Paul Mac says he should be right for the Aussie Open in a coupla weeks time.

Has anyone on BigFooty had the Chicken Pox before and how did you get it/how long did you have it for?

I got it when I was 3, from my sister and it took about 10-14 days to recover from it.

yeah it has danni, cos after they announced he was ok, the tests came back positive for pox. u think they could have waited til the results came back. oh well. bad luck to the aussies.

In 1996 - the 'Bears' had their first home final - and we won it - 1pt win over Essendon! Anyway it shocked us enough that we weren't prepared for a 2nd final the next week (against Carlton) and had to suddenly scrape the bottom of the barrel for ticket money! We got the money - got the tickets - then 2 days later my charming little son came down with chicken pox after I had just paid $35 for his seat at the bloody game to which he now couldn't go to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes chicken pox can be expensive too!

I had it when i was about 10.

My brother got it about a week after me and he hated it. We were at the supermarket and mum made made us sit at the front waiting for her to finish shopping. Well he was wearing a hooded windcheater, and he decided that he didn't want anyone seeing his pox, so he put the windcheater on backwards covering his face.

Everyone who walked past looked at him, and it was the most embarrassing moment in my life to date.

well........ummm i cant remember if i had them or not. lol :p mum and i r trying to figure out when. lol so yeah we r pretty sure that i have had them, which is good. esp when they get worse as u get older.

Like you did Danni, I somehow managed to pick it up as a full blown adult (not the smartest thing to do) when I was 24.

Damn near killed me (truer than it sounds) and I have never been the same since. Was sick for a month, at least two more recovering and since then it seems my whole immunity system isnt as strong as it was previously.

I dont like Hewitt in the slightest, but for this, I hope he gets a 'mild' (if it can be mild) case.

Not a pleasant short time ahead to come for the boy at all.

I had it when I was in prep (i was about 6 i think) and I missed a day at the Zoo with all the preps! I cant remember how long it took me to recover from them.

Never had it. My sister had it when she was 4, she had about 3 outbreaks I think. She came down with the rash the morning after we slept in the same bed, and before the rash comes out is supposed to be the most contagious time... yet I never got it. My sister also got the German measles which I never got either, so maybe I have a good immune system or something...

I'm worried about getting the chicken pox as an adult though, does anyone know if there's a vaccine for it or something?

i had it when i was 21,only had it really bad for one night though
worse thing about it was the it was at finals time and i got it in the days after the preliminary final game, and i then missed out on playing in a premiership:( :( :(

I got them when i was about 10 and was in Perth on holiday visiting relatives in Perth.I got them wen it was passed through from my youngest cousin who passed them onto my bro who gave them to my other cousin and I gave them to my older sister. What a great way to spend a holiday stuck in another state with the chicken pox.

Yeah...caught it off my boss' kid a couple of weeks before I turned 30. Never felt ill during the week I had it, just hellishly uncomfortable, and it really did sap the strength from the body. Must have been 6 weeks before I was back to normal.

I've had the chicken pox three times! Once when I was very little but I can't remember them. Another time when I was in year 5 where all my legs and arms were covered and last of all and hopefully my last time, I had them again in year 8 and I had them all over my body which was by far the worst. Still, in year 8 I did get to take 2 weeks off school when there really wasn't much wrong with me. Chicken pox is a great infection as long as you don't get it too bad.

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Couldn't agree more! Probably bad karma for being such a jerk!

At last we can all relax now though. Marky Mark is on his way back, and once again the Australian public can hail a TRUE champion on the tennis court.

Welcome back Mark. P!SS off Lleyton!!!!!

haha there is no comparisons ! Big Mark Wussy philipoussis, this guy has done more wrong than lleyton ! Take a look at his childish ways, refuses to play davis cup , has a go at tony roche ,a great servant of the game, for sitting in rafters box at the us open when in actual fact he is rafters coach ! der !!!!!!
Then all the fake injuries he comes up with, as long as lleyton is around and playing then mark will always take the back seat to him. Lleyton at least has a passion for his country and has a much bigger heart

Why not - that's what's forming your judgement of Hewitt.

Phillipoussis is a one-dimensional dud. Big serve, but has nothing else to his game. He's 25 years old and is still being rated on potential instead of achievement.
