I’m trying to rack my brain trying to figure out what the advantage might be in terms of delisting him instead of waiting for the FA period

Possible benefits;
It gives him maximum time to decide what he wants to do and test the market.
May signal to one of the youngsters we are making room for you.
May signal to someone we are targeting there's a role for you so don't resign with your existing club.
It allows a nice send off
It maybe trying to create a distraction away from Tex

The club has made a very strange decision, by announcing that they wouldn't be re-signing him now. It's obvious to all and sundry that he's still capable of performing at the AFL level, so I wouldn't have expected this announcement to come so soon.

Presumably there is a plan in place, though we'll have to wait and see what it is. Obviously they wanted to give him a proper farewell, such is the regard inn which he is held, which meant not waiting until after the season had ended.

Maybe he's already agreed to take up the SANFL Coaching position (replacing Godden), in which case delaying and denying him a proper farewell would be pointless?

Maybe... maybe there's another reason. Just guessing at this point.

I can't find where it ways it in the AFL Rules document, but this report from The Age states that "* There will be no compensation for delisted players ".

Ah - I think I see the issue.

October 30-November 6: AFL Free Agency Period
November 27: List Lodgment #2

We won't have delisted him until AFTER the free agency period. If he gets signed by anyone as a free agent, we get compo. If he doesn't, we'll delist him.

Thanks for your service Lynchy. Peaked in 2017 and played a perfect role in Pyke's system.

If we are clearing house, we need to do it properly though. Next on the chopping block:

- Mackay
- Kelly

And probably:

- Crouch
- Talia
- Tex

Keep Sloane for another year or so, then hand over the captaincy to Tommy Doedee.

FA compo is a joke for a lot of reasons (chiefly because it is paid by all clubs rather than the club that gets the new player), but it would be even worse than it in fact is if we could get compo for a player we are refusing to have in our list.
We refused to have Brad Crouch on our list.

We haven't delisted him. We can't officially until after free agency. We're just not offering him a contract.

Good point.

Surely if the Hawks got compo for Isaac Smith, we could get compo for Lynch.

No hand over Captaincy to Tommy next year, he is more than ready

Sloane then needs to fight for his spot in the team and also learn a new role across HF

Despite the chuckles of both Mutineer and the extremely passive aggressive skam85, I believe Mego Red is correct in that they only become officially de-listed once the free trade period is over, and they have found no suitors.

If you're going to tag me please make it something substantial or don't bother.

Anyone else hear the nuffy on 5AA? Said the crows should get done for age discrimination and ruining a person's life for not renewing Lynch at 30.
Don't worry, we are keeping Mackay to break Michael Tuck's record.

Our main supporter base's love for old guard players like Lynch is another contributing factor to why we are in 17th place

Unless you've got your facts straight don't post passive aggressive 'laugh reacts' for no reason. Be a big boy and concede you might not have gotten it right :drunk:
Passive aggressive?

Are you serious?

Passive aggressive?

Are you serious?

Absolutely.

I'm sure you've got your little texting fingers going furiously in about 10 different threads, no need to insert yourself into every conversation you see on BigFooty! Vader ,myself and a few others were simply going over a potential compo pick for Lynch, and you feel the need to respond with, bizarrely, laughing emojis. Next time if you're not sure on a topic, maybe just sit it out on the sidelines? Or maybe engage the conversation with a bit of humility like a normal person?

Capiche?
