Has an inexperienced player ever copped as much shit as he has ?
I don't mean just the racist stuff, but just look at the shit he cops on this site [especially from a certain group of supporters]

Players like McKernan [Adel],Brown [Geel],Lisle [Lions],Stanley [StK],Cordy [Dogs]...etc don't cop shit like he does and they've been on club lists for years and done nothing much at all.
Votes for Jack Watts will not be counted

Higgsy, you know if Wattsy comes out and has a good year, that the critics will be even harder on him.
They'll then say, why didn't Watts deliver in the past, mentally soft - and on the hate goes.

On Majak Daw though, he lacks coordination and to my eye, he'll never have that coordination.
Ability wise, he makes LRT look like Larry Bird. Come to think of it, LRT actually does look like Larry Bird.

He is out of contract this year, right? I think he'll get another 2 year offer regardless of what he achieves this year purely from a marketing point. I personally think he'll play between 30-50 AFL games. Which is still a fairly big achievement in my eyes.

He's played 1 year in the AFL, so it's not natural to tear it apart in his 1st year, give him time he will turn good

He's played about four years of VFL and has hardly torn up the competition. You watch him play VFL and there will be times he will do some great work but there will be other times he just looks lost.

Moves extremely well for a guy his size.

That goal he kicked in the VFL where he ran from half back - you won't see many 195cm + guys moving with that sort of speed and flowing coordination.

An impressive goal. But he really only goes past one guy, the big Collingwood ruckman who moves like a witches hat. As I said before I think Fitzpatrick, Stanley and Nic Nat are probably quicker or very similar. I think his athletic talents are over reported due to his impressive physique and skin colour.

I think the level he gets to will be determined a lot more by his football talent than his athletic talent.

And I know it was just his first game for the season but he seemed to be blowing pretty hard against the hawks. Has he got the work ethic to get the fitness needed not just the muscles?

Classic tall poppy syndrome and his career has barely started

Laugh at the people using Fridays game as a indication of anything when North's midfield was just insipid.
Not believing he will make the grade doesn't make it tall poppy syndrome.

It's because North supporters, and their coach, keep talking him up as something special. When did you hear any of those supporters of those players talk them up to be special?
You didn't see anything special first hand when he had ten shots at goal against your mob in his second AFL game?

What evidence are we using to discuss whether or not he will make the grade?

A NAB cup game? or his small amount of senior appearances?
Watching him play he is a long way off it, his physical advantage helps him in the VFL but won't in the AFL.
Regardless your use of the term "tall poppy syndrome" in this case is just completely wrong.

Kade Simpson first three games featured a combined 0 total disposals overall. The thread is very premature and I'd consider it tall poppy syndrome with the media build up.

i think left deep with a side capable of making finals he is good enough 1 on 1 against anyone to kick 50 in a year already. Whether that is beating up on the struggling sides ala bulldogs and brisbane until the concussion or not he has the ablitliy. Will be the type of guy IMO who improves every year until his 30s. Not much physical contact in his pre season to date will only get better

Acknowledged in the first post that it was very early and not too serious - I'm just interested in the differing opinions - obviously nobody knows for sure yet

When you consider how look it took Tom Hawkins to really start to live up to his hype and draft position, I think there is still a very decent chance that Majak could have a really good career. He hits the packs so hard and high and gets his hands to plenty of balls that it may just take a few really good performances for it to really click for him and for him to realise he can do it at the level and then he could be away. If he could kick 6 goals 4 in one of his first games then he can do it again and more regularly once he's more established, I would have thought.

Ruckmen and key position players always take longer to develop but I don't think he will get to 100 games. He's already almost 23 and only has 6 games under his belt so far.
I was about to aks how old he is.

Let's be honest his scope for improvement is pretty high, but does he have the footy smarts? I'm not sure.

He looked a bit lost on Friday night.

Does it really matter how many games he'll play, FFS he's just another tall athletic player learning the game. Are there threads on here asking the same question of similar type players?
Question: If he was exactly the same shape, size and with same athletic ability but he was white and came from Laverton or Frankston would this thread, or for that matter most of the other threads about him, be on here?

I find the varying expectations of him interesting.

Feel free to start a thread about whoever you want

LOL He's been playing football for ten years. "Takes time to learn the game, plus he's tall so it takes longer to develop big men because they're taller you know"...

Bullshit. Jim Stynes learnt how to catch the ball, carry it towards two big sticks, kick it, fist-punch it and ruck in two hours and ended up playing more games consecutively than anyone else ever has. And he won a brownlow along the way. It's football guys, not quantum physics. It's not that hard to learn.

Anyway I'm not saying every migrant should be as good as Jim Stynes because that hasn't happened since and will probably never happen again but he's 23 and played six games and half of those he only got because of his race (or should I call it "marketing" like everyone else has?)

Anyway he's shown he can be brilliant and he's deserved his shot but I'm ready to put a line through him. 50 games is out of the question, as much as I'd love to see it. I'm saying 16.

Shit post. Jim Stynes played in a far simplier time of football where the tactics were incredibly easy to learn. Learning about structures/processes, 2nd and third phases of football etc isn't easy. Football wasn't even professional in Jim Stynes area.

Personally I've often wondered why there aren't more significant contributions to academia, science or the arts from AFL players once they finish kicking a ball around. I mean if they can lock down those 2nd and third phases of football clearly they are capable of greater things.

LOL. j/k. It's football. It's not hard. If you're struggling with learning tactics ("score more goals than the opposition") then you must have something wrong with you.

Anyway re: Stynes... Despite all the amazing work he has done, I'm pretty sure while he was a ruckman at Melbourne football was his profession (and ergo, football was "professional" in his "area")
