Make a case for hope?

The main case for hope is age.

We're still a very young list, so the players we add over the next few years will be just that, additions. Meaning more depth/quality through the list.

Sure, we might lose a few players to FA/trades, but we should be able to pick up as many back.

Once Dimma has gone, (unless he suddenly fixes things therefore not needing a case for hope) we can use our $$ to find the best coaches/footy dep and know that this time (for the first time ever?) we have the resources and facilities to help them succeed from the start.

We have the core group and some high end draft picks ready to come into the side and dont dismiss the impact a change of gameplan/message can make immediately. The boys are confused, and a change to a more suited gameplan could quickly drive the performance of the individual/team upward again.

i have probably 50-60 years left on this world, so i'm bound to see success sometime

Dunno, 1/18 shot at the moment. If we do not win 3 GF's like Saints recently could be a long 60 years!

wanna make sure when we get half an opportunity we give ourselves every chance I would have thought!;)

  • Off field things are first class - so we should improve recruiting and development ( I'd like us to appoint a football innovation manager to look at strategies to get us in front of the curve)
  • We do have 5 first round draft picks in the reserves or injured - Deledio, Conca, Vickery, Lennon, C.Ellis which would indicate we do have talent available to improve the side
  • We are still relatively young although selection and recruitment decisions need to be made around some key older players on the list (Chaplin & Maric)
  • We have development left in players - Conca, Lennon, C.Ellis, Martin, Griffiths, Astbury, Vlastuin, Vickery + other 1st and 2nd year draftees
  • Another good draft crop will help top up longer term list depth and address key needs - Small Forwards
  • One or two good free agents could push development forward quickly
  • Surely someone will realise Morris is no good
  • Having a VFL team should aid player development as the reserves team project moves forward
  • Surely we will a good father and son soon. Craig Lambert's son Billy is in GWS's academy, he's eligible in 2016. Paul Broderick and Chris Naish also have sons eligible in 2017, they're both playing for Northern Knights U16 this year (please one of you be good!)

Will chappy make any difference
Will lids make a diff
Will conca allow us to use Martin 50/50 forward mid
Will griff start kicking straight
Can Jack stop missing ****en goals when it counts most
Can cotch play any better
Can Martin play any better
Can Maric play any better
The answers to these Q tell me there's plenty of upside , 1 month into the year and I haven't mentioned any draftees

Tyrone will play every game for the rest of the year (barring injury) and start to show the talent we were hoping for years ago.

Griffiths will return and become a dominant CHF in a 3 tall attack.

Astbury will stay in the team with Chaplin and Rance to form a formidable back line.

Conca, Foley, Deledio, C.Ellis will all come into and improve the team.

Lennon will establish himself in the team.

By round 22 our team will look like this:

B: Grimes/Batchelor, Astbury, Vlastuin
HB: Houli, Rance, Chaplin
C: Ellis, Cotchin, McIntosh
HF: S.Edwards, Griffiths, Deledio
F: Lennon, Riewoldt, Vickery
R: Maric, Miles, Martin
Int: Hunt, Conca, Foley
Sub: C.Ellis

I'd love to see that team on the park.

We;ve won more games the past two years than both of them, that makes us better doesn't it?

Define "better" anyway you want, RiG. You're right. We have won more games than them over the past 2 years.

For me, last year is done and over. If we go back five years, the Dogs probably have us. And Melbourne have more flags than us, historically. I don't think either of those facts count for that much when comparing 2015 teams.

If we get to the season's end and we're higher than them on the ladder, I'll revisit these games and call them anomalies. In the meantime, both Melbourne and the Bulldogs were comfortably better than us on the day we played them, which for me, makes them better than us, at this moment in time.

The only thing I'd say is everyone expects teams to follow some logical arch. Bottom out, draft youngsters, show promise while losing, gradually start winning more until it culminates in a flag.

Remember Brisbane and Geelong both copped thrashings in the first flag season of their dynasty. Bomber nearly was sacked before that season started.

Brisbane won the spoon three years before their three peat. Hawthorn came second last in 04 and won a flag four seasons later

I'm not saying where going to be as good as them- but people act like you can see this success coming a mile away. But it often comes when you least expect it.

It doesn't mean success is coming to Richmond. It just means that you can't say it isn't either.

Just thought I'd bump my own post from after the Geelong loss as timely now.

We weren't doomed then and we aren't doomed now. We needed to improve then, and we did. Hopefully we can do that again.
