You seem to think it's wrong for someone to seek evidence. Question still stands.

You do jest! New and fresh compelling evidence cannot be publicly revealed until tested in a court of law. To do so would be totally inappropriate. Evidence is the only thing that matters.

Releasing evidence could lead to a mistrial for one. Best leave details for the courts.

Although Birnies were suspects the likes of Lisa Mott, I do ponder if someone else had mates. Panel van etc.

Andrew Garforth is looking a promising suspect in the crime, possibly with an accomplice. He murdered Ebony Simpson.

Ironically he had a yellow Corolla in NSW. He followed the school bus Ebony was in.

13/9/1980 Annette Deverell ex Mandurah outside post office last seen talking to man in yellow panelvan; headless corpse located 7/7/1982 Waroona Dam.
30/10/1980 Lisa Mott ex Collie missing; last seen talking to man in yellow panel van. Birnie known to have been in Collie at time.

Andrew Peter Garforth is also suspected of the unsolved 1979 murder of West Australian teenager Felicia Marie Wilson, 19, of Kwinana, Perth. Miss Wilson, a former Miss West Coast finalist, was stripped naked and slashed before her killer smashed her skull with a 27 kg block of limestone as she walked home from work at the Kwinana Community Health Centre about 4.30pm on January 10, 1979. The manhunt went cold until the early 1990s when WA detectives received information from NSW police about a man who reportedly had nightmares about Miss Wilson. By 1994, NSW police had further information about Miss Wilson's death that linked Garforth, who lived in the area at the time, to the unsolved crime. The investigation is ongoing.

It's a Mazda 808.
"As the search for Ebony continued, a police officer noticed a yellow Mazda 808 that fitted the description both Christine and the neighbour reported seeing near the bus stop."

Yep, specsavers, Thanks. Not that I think it matters potentially. I don't think Dorothy necessarily had it locked in. Dorthy thought it was a Corolla. Adrenalin does funny things to the brain. I think I have pointed out it was an 808 before in another thread.

Dorothy said it was a yellow car with a steel seat. It might have been a very worn seat that lost some of its cushion.

I have Dorothy pegged for someone else, but there is no indication what state the car was registered.

Extract from WA Gov Hansard - Arthur Greer, Forensic evidence in trial re fingerprint at SM site

Thanks for that.
The short answer is the finger print was on masking tape which has been input to the national fingerprint database which has not shown a return as yet.
The person who the finger print has not been finger printed.

No other comment about the other evidence.

The evidence has been destroyed? Naughty naughty.

If "ridge detail" is capable of being obtained off a footprint & at least at that current point in time, it was obviously not possible to differentiate between the possible sources, my questions are:

1) can they now differentiate between various sections of ridge detail to determine the source accurately?
2) why aren't foot imprints currently also taken?

I doubt too many crimes would be committed in bare feet, but if it isnt hard to do, why not do it & particularly if their capacity still doesn't include accurate determination of where the print originated?

Coincidently the Camden Ripper (Anthony John Hardy) was in Australia in 1983 - he was later convicted of murder in the UK, dismembering his victims, placing body parts in garbage bags and dressing his victims up in masks for the purpose of taking photographs.

The fingerprint has not matched anyone - yet

Someone with no crim record

Fingerprint maybe other, but someone got to the point of sexually assaulting highschool, chopping up body.
Blob database analysis pretty good these days. Someone has avoided police.

How do you not admit evidence to trial yet instruct evidential items for destruction?

Mmmmm

Its hard to fathom that until 2001 fingerprint comparison was still being done manually.

If it is a footprint, was Greer's footprint taken to conclusively rule the print out as being his? Beatnicked?

It may match someone already on the database, if it is from a foot & feet imprints aren't taken they'd never know.

The people in the surrounding shops should have been fingerprinted just to see if the bag had been sourced locally.

(part-quote) ..

Mmmmm

The below Hansard doc (which has also previously been posted on this thread by One Eyed Spy) indicates that material is still available.

"Some of the material is no longer centrally stored but is available for further examination and analysis if required".

Do we have proof that evidential items have been destroyed?
