I know it's a long bow to draw on - but this particular time I don't how else you could interpret the man's thoughts as been anything else.

Up until last year, Collingwood and Essendon having the Anzac Day clash exclusively, was vehemently argued by Mic that they should have it because they made it what it was today. In any case the debate of Anzac is not the issue but the pretext to it is.

Mic has now publicly changed his tune. He said. 'Is it exclusive for us, for any particular reason? Probably was early days. It's 15 years later maybe it shouldn't be. I've thought about this for some years. I've only (now) had the intestinal fortitude to say (it).'

Really? Only now he has the intestinal fortitude to say it?

Maybe I'm not so trusting of Mic's words and I would have to say he is looking already at a future outside Victoria Park.

It's an interesting proposition and one which has been discussed before. Not sure the ANZAC comments mean anything though.

Collingwood have put in place a contract to essentially prevent Malthouse from going to another club by putting him in a mentor role.

However - this type of contract is in essence a 'resraint of trade' clause - which legally generally do not hold much weight. There is certainly the possibility that he could be elsewhere next year.

Brisbane will likely be looking for a new coach by then. :D

Yeah, all I could think of when he said that was that he was trying to open the door for his next club to have it, not a good look really.

If Mick coaches anywhere, it will be in Melbourne given his ever expanding family.

I saw Mick being interviewed on Channel 9's 6:00pm News last night and he pretty much said what you've reported above. However; towards the end of the report he also said something like (words to the effect, with regards to other Clubs playing on ANZAC Day): "At the moment I have an opinion about this issue, but ask me again next year and I'll probably have a different view." He then looked over his shoulder playfully, as if pretending to check if Eddie was standing behind him listening!

I found that quite cheeky. :);)

Well, then he is either alluding to Eddie that he wants the coaching job again, (which definitely won't happen) or he doubles his pay. Is Eddie prepared to pay a substantial amount of money so that other clubs don't poach him?

Or maybe he just wanted to end on a good note. :D

I don't know where he will be next year but from the comments recently like others have stated you cant help but read between the lines. Mick IMO is the sort of guy that likes to drive the bus and be in control not a person who will sit comfortably in a second fiddle role like the Pies have for him after this season.

Where he is headed is a lottery i think but he will be coaching somewhere in the AFL in the main role after 2010.

I posted this on another board

I don't think Mick is going anywhere but I think if at the end of the year Mick went to Eddie and says I want to keep coaching and since Nathan is Collingwood's new coach I want to go else where , I think Collingwood and Eddie out of respect for what Mick has achieved would be allowed to go

With the exception of Essendon, pretty much every melbourne club shoud be after him.

In reality - melbourne, bulldogs and carlton seem obvious options due to the current tenure of their existing coaches.

But if the hawks have another mediocre year and just drift into the finals - malthouse should be offered whatever it takes.

I'm still genuinely shocked that he won't be coaching the pies. Clubs wait decades to be in the position Collingwood are in now. Relatively youthful list, top of their game, comfortably ahead of the opposition. They could bank 2 or 3 flags with this group.

The guy that has built the group, developed the players and created a finals worthy gameplan - is going to be axed for a rookie.

It's just crazy IMO.

I must say that I thought as much when I heard his comments.
I cant see him being happy playing second fiddle. I disagree with those who think that Collingwood will keep him in the lesser role just by throwing a shit load of money his way. Whilst we all like to be remunerated I reckon Mick is more motivated by success than the coin.

Would think that Melbourne would appeal to him as he would be able to secure a contract for several years and with the young and exciting list that Melbourne has, he would be good odds to have success.

Maybe Carlton as Mick does like center stage.

He's just playing games, He's already stated he'll be doing the director of coaching job at Collingwood.

The AFL love the Anzac day game and tradition Collingwood and Essendon have created, there in no hope in hell it will be given to other teams to play at the MCG, seems Fremantle have a tradition playing at home on that day too.

The fact is if they were to chop and change teams to play on Anzac Day there is no tradition and would no doubt risk losing 10,000-15,000 spectators maybe more depending on the teams.

Melbourne are the perfect fit for Malthouse. Raw young list that has talent but their improvement appears to have stalled this year.

Malthouse would also like the appeal of a team that hasn't tasted premiership for 47 years.

Brings me to Buckley. Why would you want to take over a team that is at the top of their game, won a premiership and will replace one of the all time great coaches. Strange decision - thought you would want to develop your own list. But then again that sums up Buckley.

Called it a couple of weeks ago and am sticking to it. He will be coaching Carlton next year. Ratts is no good and was about to be sacked last year until they smashed the Dons late in the year to save his hide.

If you win the flag this year and Malthouse coaches somewhere else next year then you guys would have ****ed this up big time. It's inconceivable a coach who has just won you two premierships would not be retained again in favour of an untried coach. Eddies cleverness may bite him on the arse.

Bigger mistake than buying pokies venues!

Agreed + Carlton is the only other club that could fill the MCG consistantly for an Anzac day clash either playing Essendon or Collingwood forget the other teams, I don't care how good they are or may become these 3 are the AFL's cash cows when it comes to blockbusters year in year out.

To the other poster who says Carlton don't have the mula to get Sourhouse rubbish, they will/can find it just like Essendon did.
