Marc Murphy AFLCA Player of the Year

Great year and well deserved. Rate Murphy very highly. His lateral movement in congestion is out of this world good. Only Ablett jnr rivals him in this area.

Actually I think Gibbs has better lateral movement. Murphy is also no slouch, a bit quicker than Gibbs and can seemingly stop from full pace on a 5c coin. Well deserved Murph. Hope you wind up with another kind of medal next year though.

Top 10 were all midfielders...this is a midfielders award...I say scrap it like the Brownlow!

Anyway, congratulations to Murphy. Amazingly consistent season

Interesting that coming into Round 24 Judd led the coaches votes 90 to Murphy 88.

Murphy polls 6 votes against St.Kilda - the break down from each of the coaches was that one gave Murphy best on ground (5 votes) the other gave him (1 vote). mmmm I wonder who Ratten gave his votes too ;)

Anyway Congrats to Murphy, had a great year and will win Carlton's B&F, however I still believe that Judd had a better year (more impact in games IMO), wasn't quite as consistant as Murphy (that's why he will win the B&F), however he played a number of outstanding matches and it was a pleasure to be at those games to witness Judd in action.

Here's hoping for further improvement across the board again next year and for Carlton to be fighting for a top 4 spot.

Very strange votes, they are, even if Murphy got 36 touches. Ratts might have cost Judd his 1st AFLCA POTY!

Murphy very deserving winner but and deserves votes on the night. 3 from Ratts might have been more apt.

Easily the most accurate individual award and the best judgement of the best player over the season by a country mile.

Congrats Murphy.

He is a shadow of himself since winning this great award. Now being made captain it is time he becomes the leader the team needs which against St Kilda he laid 0 tackles which is not a very good sign when the team needed him.

It is time for Murphy to step up, he was tracking along to be seen as a top 10 afl player.

I agree, why didn't you poast thos last week or the week before??

oh right coz he a bad game last night and was injued from the get go.

pull ya head in champ.

I'd say his fall from grace coincided with smashing into Danger and wrecking his shoulder. Not saying he has been terrible, just seems to have lacked something since. He's still a gun and you'd back him to get back to that 2011 form, it's just a question of when.

Criticise a player in a thread about his AFLCA POTY award.

Can we do this for Jobe or Goddard after a bad game?

Marc needed to show more leadership now that he's captain, but he's still a gun who had an interrupted pre-season. I'd like to see the medical after Murphy rolled his ankle last night. Still laid nine tackles against WC and seven against Adelaide.

More concerned about Simpson who hasn't been the same his face was smashed last year. Looks to be pulling up when he's always gone for everything and thrown himself into contests.

Yeah exactly. Not saying Murphy doesn't deserve criticism... but why dig up this thread which is about his deserved accolade from 2 seasons ago?

Should have just created a new thread with the title "What's happened to Marc Murphy?"

Criticism is warranted. Had a very poor night. Reports that he's going into games carrying an injury that should require resting... even suggestion his old man had a go at whatever club figures he was sitting with last night about the matter...

Maybe captaincy and Murphy wasn't the right choice. I was hoping for Simpson at the time but in hindsight with his form he wouldn't be the best choice either. Still over half a season for this to play out.

Feel like pure sh*t just want AFLCA MVP Marc Murphy back

Loved this season in general, but Murph was in rare form. Was probably at his bulkiest, and had the perfect inside/outside game. Ran his opponents into the ground, kicked goals, linked up beautifully with Judd, Gibbs and co.

Looked liked he'd elevated his game again at the start of 2012, then got injured and never got his mojo back. He's had a few nice seasons in between, but was never the same player.

Can you blame us? Won a final, Ratts still coach, Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer, Lachie Henderson could be anything, Nick Duigan is a gun, Michael Jamieson and Bret Thornton, loving Marcus Davies and Paul Bower, little Dennis Armfield and how could we forget Setanta's little helpers

Davies, Bower, Armfield and Duigan... I mean, I know lots of North fans rated Urquhart over Pendlebury but cmon Carlton, they were never good or promising

Murphy was never really the same after the clash with Dangerfield.

For all the shit he got about being soft, his career took a downturn after 2 serious injuries attacking the ball against Hodge and Dangerfield, 2 of the most solid, tough mids in the comp.

Certainly redeemed himself in my eyes.

Also people forget in his prime aged years of his career, he had 4 surgery interrupted preseasons in a row, as well as significant portions out in 2012 and 2016. We didn't see his best and where he could have ended up after 2011.
