Word going around on the drafts and AFL boards that Marc Murphy is waiting to see who we trade before he signs. Hasn't signed yet as he's willing to help the club out by taking a cut if it means we can get some big name player.

What a ****ing star. I love you Marc Murphy :thumbsu:

If that is true, then he gets my nomination for bluebagger of the year. The kid just wants to win and he wants to do it with his mates. Awesome!

It all has to do with minimum player payments as far as I'm concerned which essentially means the same thing only in reverse.

Hmmm... i'd prefer to beleive that Marc is a saint.;)

Meh, if he was such a saint he would sign on for minimum payments and allow the club more salary cap space to chase the big names with :thumbsd:

*battens down the hatches and waits for the hordes to attack* :p:D

I'm guessing the terms (duration, salary and conditions) of the contract have been agreed to by club and Murphy, and the club is now just waiting to see what transpires during trade week to determine how to best structure it (front/back ended). I dont think Murphy will be taking paycuts or asking for more money, based on who we do or dont get during trade week, as there is no way that one player would take it upon themselves and compromise their own contract and financial future for the sake of a trade.

Perhaps, or perhaps not. Who knows what will go down at our club over the next few years.

The last unselfish act I remember at our club (pre-Pratt) was Matty Allen's massive massive voluntary pay cut.:thumbsu:

Not so much pay cut AWG, if we don't lure anyone (considering we will have cap space) they will most likely front load his contract

But yes, it's great he's holding off his own agenda to potentially help the club :)

yea not a bad idea i dnt completely disagree
however it shouldnt be jus the one player going on minimum wages
we recently signed three players on b & f night
did any of them take minimum payments?
i think its marc's way of doing his bit for our club
but tht doesnt mean he has to go on minimum wages

Yeah like the AFL draft board is a reliable source of news :D :D

I detect the faint odour of bullshit in this story to be honest ... I'm sorry but call me naive but I doubt any player would sacrfice something like 50 K in his next contract simply to help the club out, those type of players are pretty much dead and buried in today's game, nearly every player out there is almost sort of a 'glorified mercenary' anyway (from all clubs)

yeah it might not be true but not because this type of spirit is dead - it does exist

Umm as much as i like to believe this, i doubt it's true!

He's not taking a cut, just holding off!

I don't know where people got the idea he is willing to take a cut, when we have lots of space in the cap

All he's doing is willing to wait until trade week, to sign on his contract. If we do or do not sign a player, all the waiting does is determine how we can structure his contract.
