I admit to being a soloman sceptic. I didn't get this trade at all but have become a fan of him and the way he plays in purple. I'm even more bewildered by the Johnson trade and his first outing did nothing to convince me it's worth keeping a youngster like Mayne out for him. I hope I'm wrong. I guess I don't really like trading when you have younger players on the list. I STILL don't think we should have got Tarrant, should have backed Murphy & Campbell in. Not saying I know better than the guys who get paid to make these decisions, it's just how I feel about it.

lets hope Tarrant pays back the faith this year... but yeah.. we could've developed Murply or Campbell a little more last year ..... hmmmmzzz:cool:

Tarrant was a player we needed to keep the Pav. We were working Pav into the ground as our permanent CHF. His shoulders were popping out yet he was still getting a game.

I'd say Pav requested another tall forward option to take some of the workload. You should hear his praises of Taz's work up the ground.

Neither Campbell nor Murphy can hold down CHF.

Full Forward has had the "Up for Grabs" sign on it for a while. Nothing stopping Murphy or Campbell from grabbing it, but they won't get it gift wrapped with a nice little ribbon tied around it. They will have to force the door open. Plenty of room for either of them with Tarrant and Pavlich both better suited to further up the ground. Tarrant where his long leads, marking and good passing can be used, as well as his ordinary shooting for goal hidden. Pavlich where he will be in the thick of things more than at FF.

Murphy got as close to this as possible last year, but then blew it because he wasn't interested. I'd like to see the two of them playing for the rest of pre-season and fight it out - rest Pav and Taz as required.

I am a bit over Murphy to be honest. He has been gifted opportunities, and has failed to take them. He needs to impose himself on that position, starting from training. The position is not a two horse race, or shouldn't be. Give Drum and Bradley a sniff of the third tall position.

Given Drum has been training with the defenders all preseason I think he is a good chance to take the third tall forward that Johnson was taking last year, leaving MiJ to head to the wing/centre. Drum looks to be one of those blokes equally comfortable up forward and down back, but I would like to see 22 games in defense from him this year.

As far as Murphy v Campbell v Bradley, I agree there is probably only room for one of them. Personally I think Campbell could be a real force if given enough games in a row to get his confidence up (he has played 5 games, only 3 in a row). Murphy has had a lot of chances (31 games), while I just don't know enough about Bradley as a forward.

On topic, MaJ will be handy depth...but I dont see any vindication yet. If he performs well in the premiership season then fine, but until then you just cant judge.

Between Pavlich, Tarrant, Solomon, Mark Johnson, Bell, Farmer, Headland, Schammer, Warnock and Sandilands I think we have enough options to cover the six forward spots quite easily without any of Campbell, Murphy or Bradley.

Campbell would be suited to the smaller Victorian grounds but unless Kiwi, Murphy or Kepler are really burning it up in the WAFL I'd prefer to see Pavlich + Tarrant + Sandi/Warnock/McPharlin/Johnson as the 3 tall forwards. It gives us greater flexibilty playing an extra running player in the 22.
