had a shocking kicking style

come to think of it, he has a terrible teaching style. well for science, anyway.

His dad was some #1 martial arts person in australia or sumthing at one stage.

He took us for martial arts a few yrs ago. he was bloody nuts!

His dad-Matthew?-has a gym in Barkly street West Footscray.

I used to go to that gym over 30 years ago. I did Ju-jitsu (sp?) and judo there. I was so talented I got my white belt almost straight away. Matthew Komp used to chuck me around all over the place. He showed me some way to break my fall by hitting the mat with my arm - trouble was i kept using my head (probably explains quite a bit). So I stopped going, took up meditation and the headaches ceased. Before I quit he paired me up with another guy who also chucked me round a bit. About 15 years ago that guy got done for murder (true story)

Nothing to do with his son playing for footscray but the fact that the gym is still there bought back memories

it was so gross having martial arts with im cos he was always really sweaty! and in his accent he'd go "now shop me in the nick!" (chop me in the neck) lol.

at the end of the term he told my friend she was a "bad apple" and me i had no balance. but it was heaps of fun neways.

Is that the game we kicked 3.15 and lost by 122 points?

Kompy is a terrific fella and often jokes about his limitations as a player, but he gave everything he had.
As jboyar says, 23 games and 23 more than me as well.
More importantly he still follows the Dogs passionately and naturally he is a member.

this was 1979 , Komps first game in 1981 was better
only lost this one by 94 pts , 26.22 to 13.6, I would of been one of the red white and blue army forming a circle in that outer forward pocket, never had much trouble at Vic Park they usually gave us a shellacking.

I still have bad memories if my first visit to Vic park in 1968 we lost by 104 points and only kicked 3 goals? I remeber going home and went straight to bed , i must of been in shock, it was a horrible experience for a young bulldog , little was i to know what the future held.
i think John Jillard got a severe injury or there was a incident with him ??
