For those who are f1 fans how does everyone think Mark Webber has gone so far in his debue season in f1? Me i believe he has done an icreadible job! 4 11ths, 3 12ths, a 15th and a BRILLIANT 5th in oz - not bad for a f1 rookie!

I go on alot of the F1 boards and the fans not from oz are very impressed with him, getting alot of plaudits from pit lane & f1 teams are looking at him - he's testing for Jaguar on Friday :D :D

He's done very well for a team with a very small budget. Considering Alex Yoong was being touted as the best driver to come out of Asia in a VERY long time, and yet hasn't come close to the results webber has, I think Webber has done fantastically.

He is almost certain to have secured himself a spot with a better team for next year. Hopefully sponsors will flock to him so he looks even more attractive to stronger teams.

I heard a rumour that Webber was off to Jaguar next season, which I would be very happy for to happen, because I am a Jaguar fan.

If our cars can actually finish, he could be a good driver and work himself for bigger drives. :)

The Hitman

According to the rumours about 2343 drivers are going to be driving for Jaguar next year, so we will wait and see. Certainly Irvine and his multi-million salary is gone. He is currently the highest paid employee in the entire Ford company! Shame cause he was my favourite driver when at Ferrari.

And the fact he is getting outqualified by his supposed number 2 De La Rosa means his days are numbered.

Webber has been brilliant - that spin he had in Germany on Sunday was the first mistake he has made all season on race day, and given Michael Schumacher spun at the same corner no disgrace there!

When you are in a crap car the only real way you can judge is performance against teammates - and he has thrashed Yoong on every occasion. From memory he has only qualified 21st once as well, meaning he has managed to get past one of the Jags or Arrows every other time.

Jaguar are a disgrace, I had big hopes when they joined, but they have turned a race winning outfit at Stewart into the worst budget to results team on the grid.

BTW - Good to see I'm not the only F1 fan on Bigfooty - might start some more threads after each GP now!

I rekon he's gone alright.

I rekon in his career he'll go on to get about 10 wins a dozen or so poles and maybe 40 podiums, win Monaco a few times..

But being Australian he's gotta watch out for those Europeans discriminating against him.

:D

Is very much in the shadow of Vettel though.

You rekonz?

you're right, vettel does look like a 13 year old girl

sadly, he doesn't drive like one

Yeah unfortunately for Mark there was a bit of Right place Wrong time for him getting a gig on Redbull which is great but having to share it with Vettel

No doubt wouldve won more races had he been the number 1 driver on that team, or even on even ground

I love the guy to death but unfortunately he just never seemed like he was on the top level. Even when he was battling for the championship in 2010 he always seemed like he was only warming the top seat.

He's like the footy player who doesn't have the natural ability of an Ablett, but works his arse off and extracts every last bit out of himself. That said, i've loved watching every minute of his career, hopefully Ricciardo provides us Aussies with plenty of highlights in the future.

Not quite. The people who beat him, were his own crew, his own bosses.

Lead British commentator Martin Brundle in 2010 when Webber was absolutely flying..
http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/236110/red-bull-clearly-favour-vettel-says-brundle/
Mark Webber has enjoyed three consecutive pole positions on the last three race weekends, plus convincing race wins in Spain and Monaco, and it was the Australian who was leading on Lap 40 at Istanbul Park before being hit by his team-mate in a move which a significant percentage of GPUpdate.net readers feel was Vettel's fault, as per a straw poll which was started on Sunday evening.

"I have said several times this season that the only team who appear to be able to beat Red Bull are themselves," Brundle said in his BBC column on Monday. "I spoke with Christian Horner (Team Principal) and Helmut Marko (team advisor) immediately after the race. They asked how I called it on TV and I told them I said it was 100 percent Vettel's fault for swerving into Webber.

"They clearly disagreed and said that Webber should never have been squeezing his team-mate onto the dirty part of the race track when, as a team, they needed to be defending against the ever-present McLarens; there's some substance to that argument but the bottom line is that Vettel turning right into the side of Webber's car was not the right answer - he so nearly wiped him out for a second time in the run-off area at the hairpin, too.
The two cars collided on the 40th lap of the 58-lap event
"The team can't expect Webber to score three consecutive dominant pole positions and wipe the floor with all comers, including his team-mate, in the previous two races in Spain and Monaco and then suddenly turn all passive the first time Vettel makes a move on him; if Webber had lifted or moved over, he may as well have just handed the World Championship trophy to his team-mate and headed back to Australia."

Oh, it has been a wicked trip mate,” Webber says. “When I left Australia I never, ever ever thought I would end up in Formula One with 215 races and 40 or so podiums under my belt. Coming from where I come from there is a very low strike rate for us guys.
“You think back to the start and you are on that rat wheel and you are working your nuts off. You can’t ever forget that. Driving in your 1.1-litre B-reg Fiesta from Norfolk to Brands Hatch to work for £43 a day. If you were lucky you might get to stay at Anne’s mum’s house and that would save you petrol. I have been very lucky. OK, I’ve had a bit of a rough time of late but overall I was dealt a good hand.”
