Other than yesterday, Chance Bateman has had a good season - one of the few positives to take away from the season. In fact, I've heard a few whispers that he is considered a future leader of the club.

I rate Chance Bateman and hope he has a long and successful career at Hawthorn, but I would hope he does something about that hairstyle before he contemplates leadership.

once bateman plays a full season and gets over his hamstring problems he will be one of our major players.

williams will be sensational, he can only improve, he is a very good set shot and demands respect from opposition clubs

The biggest problem with Williams is that he is a short player playing as a tall. He too often leads into Thommo's space resulting in a two on one against Thommo in a marking contest. He also fails to put pressure when the other team have the ball and lacks crumbing ability. I think in hindsight this is a golden opportunity to trade him for a 2nd rd pick or reasonable midfielder. We missed the chance to get a good return on Campbell Brown I hope we take the opportunity with him this year if we can get something good in return. I would then put Brown back in the forward line where he has played his only decent football.

yes williams does play as a marking forward but you must remember we have had no forward structure this year, we went in with high hopes for barker, thommo and holland, who all struggled. therefore at times willo was a focal point.

i have faith that a new philosophy will be bring a new forward structure and williams will be able to play as the 3rd leading forward and be able to fly under other teams radars.

What the hell are you on?

Williams and Davey would provide a lethal crumbing division.

At the moment Davey is all we've got.

What does have an interest in a certain player have to do with giving up?

Williams is not a crumber. He is a 180cm marking forward, ala Medhurst - only not as good.

Young, could be a 50-60 goal a year player, with our dearth of goalkickers i'd be loathe to trade him for anything less than a 1st rounder or equivalent, which most clubs will not be willing to offer.

I think he would be up for trade, but i personally would like him to stay. 30 odd goals is a good return for a small forward, dont know what we'd want for him tho, what would ya offer?

If i was coach i can tell you now if i could trade him i would, if i couldn't he would be delisted, but hey people rate him, so i should have no problem shifting him for more then he is worth. The most possies he has in a game is just 11, he avg something like 5 a game, you want him, you can have him, say any round 3 or greater cos i reckon some other team would do it. Mind you if i was coach i wouldn't be saying he would be delisted if he didn't get traded. My fellow hawk supporters may not agree with me, but he has shown nothing in the last month or so, he may need a new environment to get the best out of him ... even then i doubt he will be any good, i am sorry but his performance is not upto afl standards. If any team gives me a rd 3 or earlier pick for him, i would shift him their faster then you can say ... you get the idea, i just no longer rate him, in fact i would accept even a rd 4 pick for him, but i reckon some teams would be willing to give up a late 2nd round pick ... well that is my gut feeling, what would you give up? forget the fact i don't rate him, cos if i was trading him properly you wouldn't know that.

Sensible as always Nightwolf. ;)

Hawthorn Football Club is exactly that, not a meat trading market!

Most of what I am about to say has already been mentioned, but I just want to add my 2 cents worth. I think Mark Williams is a real talent, but he appears to be a reluctant one. I don't know the lad at all but he appears to be different to most, more reserved, a bit of a loner. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I get.

Haha, well said Adelaide! :thumbsu: :D

Hindsights a wonderful thing! ;)

Interesting to see the turnaround from thoughts in 2004

Yeah, good idea. Trade the ONLY one in the team who actually kicks goals.

Well, Clarkson isn't actually playing him in the forward line these days, so it's not like we'd miss him. :D
