blues need to mark inside 50 more often. henderson and o'haiplin need to lead in the forward 50 and stick their hands onto the ball. henderson dropped a few last night that he should have taken. cant rely on betts and yarran to scrap for the ball all the time.

really there's no promident forwards leading to the midfeilders.
thorton, jamison, bower and austin should all play at the same and leave waite upforward. waite is the only tall forward that leads and marks.

Marks inside 50 are gold in the current game. The way teams now zone back and play loose defenders to fill in holes is making it even harder. Unless you have a J Brown , Pavlich type player in your forward line you are allways going to struggle in this area. This is where a massive importance on the midfield type players come into focus so that they can hit a target or a leading forward from 40+ meters away with good accuracy thus diminishing the reliance on a good pack contested marking player who you can just bomb it in to.

It is going to take a few months before we fully adjust to life after Fev etc and i am happy with the way we are going and what we have showed so far this year. Setanta has showed good improvement in this area and Hendo will be a star when he has 50 games under his belt. I really am waiting for Levi to get a go as he has great hands and excellent size about him.

Carlos and Hendo need to work on taking marks when under pressure. Anyone else see Lachie take a mark and then just drop it thinking he had control and then it was called play on? Bad umpiring but still, gotta hold on as long as possible Hendo! Still loved his work though

The forward line looks somewhat crowded to me...obviously the players need to play together for a while before getting an understanding of eachother but when hendo, waite and setanta are all up there, it seems they all ran in the same direction. Im thinking maybe we need one less big man and have more runners hitting the packs hard.

Levi will be interesting.

Henderson was actually robbed twice. The one you mention Zee and at a critical time in the last quarter where he was clearly held on the left flank and they ran it away for another forward foray. At that point, if Hendo gets the free and goals (was a very gettable spot) we get a spring back in our step since scores were still pretty close at the time.

The fact that he gets himself into positions and is strong enough to cause defenders to have to infringe to prevent him getting the ball, is a good sign for mine.

We really need to remember how young this guy is and he's already stamping a bit of a presence on the game. But yes, more marks are needed and they will come.

Work in progress.
Lachie is still only 19, and will most certainly get better.
Carlos does get his hands to the ball a lot, and will certainly benefit from having significantly more ball directed to him.
Waite is our swingman, and when playing forward, will be dangerous. I'd expect him to play forward this week vs Essendon.

Hendos only 92kg atm, he needs one more pre-season to to get up to about 95-96kg and then we will see him breaking open packs. This years going to be a learning year for him where he learns when and where to lead and other important skills.
