I am actually very interested in this and don't see how having the backstory exposed can lessen the impact on Hird in the end. Be he the instigator or the patsy frontman, he's going down the same.

So would those who are "way past them" have influence over Workcover? I've never understood why they have not been all over this.

Regards

S. Pete
WorkCover would be about number 10 on the list of agencies that should have an interest here.

The Workcover angle, is a good angle and could be handy in terms of prosecuting under the OHS Act. The players are full time and one could argue that their Occ Health and Safety was damaged by this. In saying that though, the Corporate Governance, Conflict of Interest and the 'boys club' mentality hasn't been fully addressed.

That is the mission.....to sow doubt.....that it even becomes an option.

Yes, but how can it possibly be argued that he wasn't indelibly involved. What's his defense going to be, "I vas just following orders."? But you still put the Zyklon B cannisters down the chutes, didn't you Hirdy? And you knew what they were too, you were at the Calzada briefing, you were being kept informed by Dank, etc.

Burn him down, but take the whole rotten rest of them too.

I hear what you're saying, but this stuff has been hidden in the shadows for too long. Some of us have got threads of it, but not enough to tell the whole story. There's nothing that can be said here now that doesn't also hang Hird.

I also think I know who CozzaD is, and it's not Hanke.

CozzaD, what have you got on Hird's history with Charter? Anything?

What about his knowledge of what Dank was up to, as per the Danny Weidler piece I've posted a few times?

When the back story comes out would you rather be framed as the "useful idiot" or the "complicit co conspiritor"?

Hi. For Hird/Charter 2004 ish (i.e. the photo of them working out) I don't know much. I haven't gone back that far to be honest.

Please send me a link of the Danny Weidler article, I'll do my best for you.

Speaking of Cronulla Sharks, they were involved in a dodgy Land Re-Zoning deal with a NSW ALP MP as well. Funny that.

Evidence? Here.

The $300m development project was passed under the controversial Part 3A amendment to NSW planning laws which cuts local councils out of the loop and allows the minister to directly approve projects.

The Weekend Australian obtained a copy of a letter sent by the NSW Minister for Planning Tony Kelly to Sutherland Shire Mayor Phil Blight last month in which he said the planned development deserved to be considered a Part 3A project.

The local Liberal MP, Mark Speakman, said through a spokesman he would need at least a week to consider all the documents but wanted his concerns about ''public transport, design, density, visual impact and the impact on traffic'' resolved.

The proposal was granted state-significant status by the former planning minister Tony Kelly and will be on public exhibition for 60 days to allow for submissions before independent assessment.

Also late on Tuesday the NSW Government signed off on the consortium’s Part 3A application, accepting the redevelopment proposal for assessment as a major project. ‘‘The Cronulla Sharks is an iconic institution in Sutherland Shire with an important role to play in the local community,’’ said Planning Minister Tony Kelly.

He said the proposal had the potential to contribute significantly to the Metropolitan Plan target of 52,000 extra jobs and 58,000 more homes in Sydney’s south by 2036, ‘‘including 10,100 new dwellings and 8000 new jobs identified for the Sutherland local government area’’.

NSW Planning Minister, Tony Kelly, last week approved a State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP) which rezones land for housing and public recreation in Sutherland Shire.

The rezoning will allow for a $700 million project, providing nearly 33 hectares of low density housing adjacent to existing residential areas of Cronulla and more than 91 hectares of land for public recreation and conservation purposes.

"Which brings us to Hird and Essendon. Hird has to front up to ASADA on Tuesday. He said from the outset that he was in shock to even be fronting a media conference relating to an inquiry into Essendon's practices.

That may well be the case, given that Dank is confident that everything he did, with Essendon's permission and full support, was appropriate. I have been through text message after text message between Dank and Essendon and make no mistake that Hird was more than just aware of what Dank was doing - he was a fan of it and a fan of the results.

At this point, I have been asked to hold fire on the exact details of the contents of the messages but they are detailed in the extreme, with names of players littered throughout the exchanges.

There are also numerous mentions of supplements and processes, which indicates that Hird will have to lay it all bare for ASADA when they meet.

Hird has had suggestions from AFL boss Andrew Demetriou that he should consider standing down. From afar, it appears that he has board support and club support not to follow what Demetriou wants.

Where was that kind of support for Flanagan, who was left to watch from afar as his club floundered? There are some in Melbourne who don't want to believe that these text messages are real. I sat with Dank and went through his phone over a cup of coffee and saw every text message from Hird to him after I had put it to him that the messages could have been falsified.

The next area of interest around Hird will be his statement that he only took injections twice to benefit himself. That is a statement worth remembering and one that may land him in trouble down the track when it comes to his credibility in this matter."

Thanks Ech, I'll read tonight and see what comes up in the next day or so.

Interesting, I'd forgotten some of that. More than a year later, you wonder why Dank was so keen to prove to a journo the authenticity of text messages that implicate *Hird. No doubt the ACC has the same texts.

The last line is interesting, too. Clearly, *Hird is in court to suppress evidence against him. Could it be that there is irrefutable evidence of more than two "tan and stiffy" jabs, and with such revelation (albeit trivial per se), his credibility goes out the window? "Probably lies"?

Hird is either naïve, greedy or stupid. I’m not sure which one yet.

In terms of the Governance/Legalities, the “key players” we’ve researched are bigger than Hird, which is why we went down that path. The buck will not stop with him (in the sense that, from his eyes, I wouldn’t want to take the wrap either for the other corporates).

Evans resignation in July 2013 is very interesting, up until that point, it was all “we’re on the same team” and “we’ll work with ASADA on this”.

There’s been a seismic shift in the thinking of Essendon FC powerbrokers since July 2013, when Evans left.

Don’t forget, I still deem that Thompson has got off very lightly in all this, so has Geelong footy club.

Question: Why are you here, telling us all this and getting your powder wet?
