Mason Cox Expectations - 2017 And Beyond

What a story!!!! Incredible to watch. Good on him and well done Collingwood and Buckley for backing him in.
Embarassing for the likes of Tim Obrien and Ryan Shoenmakers who hawthorn have been “developing” for the past 7 and 8 seasons. This guy had never held a football or even knew what the game was 3 years ago and he’s done more in 2.5 quarters than they have done in 8 years.
No more excuses for coaches and recruiters who use the “it takes key position players 4-5 years to develop”...

Except he has literally taken since early 2014 to develop this, not '3 years', and he isn't an 18 year old taking 4-5 years, he was 23.

Reminded me a bit of big fish Paul Salmon pre-knee injury tonight - just too tall in the air, and with a strong enough body to handle contact in the marking contest.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him back it up to a degree on GF day.

In hindsight Richmond probably should have played someone on him.

A bit of body contact and he struggles to hold them. Free run and he will mark over the top of Vlastin or Cotchin all day long.

Did some amazing things last night, but still needs to work on consistency. Pies fans were wanting him dropped a week ago When he's on fire though he is one of the most unstoppable players in the league.

Imagine if he had grown up playing AFL. Is it too crazy to think he could have been one of the greatest forwards of all time?

Haha yeah i know it does sound pretty out there. When you think about it though when he is hot he is an absolute beast. At 211cm with his athleticism and some of the talent he has he is pretty hard to stop.

If he had grown up playing the game from say aged 7 he would have more consistency, developed better skills, have a better feel for the game, lots of little things he could do better, be better at reading the play and have better footy instincts. He would have developed far more, a lot more rapidly and had much greater potential.

27 year old tall forward ruck averaging one goal and six hitouts a game.
Reaching the lofty standards of Leigh brown and Jesse white before him.

he is played out of position as a tall forward.

he is best used as a first ruck that takes marks around the ground but the Pies already have Grundy for that so of course he wont be getting much hitouts.

Nah just pretend you meant he averages bog (best on ground) and to be honest apart from one big tackle he didn't offer much on the deck tonight - so dead right tonight!
When you're marking everything that heads your way there's not much work on offer on the deck :D

The thing I like about him is his arrogance. You can just tell he really loves the game and he knows when he does something really good, he just can’t hide it.
Even though we were getting smashed I just loved his reaction against us after his last goal on Queen's Birthday. Just nodding in appreciation of himself. An absolute character!
