Massive game v Hawks

I really like the idea of Dunn on Hodge. Did a great job on Jobe W in the first half vs Essendon iirc. Obviously Hodge is a cut above that, and it would be a great test for Dunn. Although the other suggestion of rotating our two young gun mids on him definitely has it's merrits.

As much as I hate to say it, every time we come up against the Hawks they seem to have some injuries or question marks over key players, and every time they pull our pants down and produce the belt.

I don't see how a "backs to the wall" Hawks side (needing to win 2 of the last 3 to make finals) is going to be any different. History is made to be repeated, and in the same way that we match up well against the pies, the Hawks match up even better on us. I'm praying (like all of us) but fear our 3 wins on the trot combined with what will be a ferociously hungry Hawthorn outfit spells a Hindenburg like season combustion for us.

I will be there pumped as ever but . . . every now and then that dreadful feeling of impending doom settles over your more fanciful visions of flawless victory. It's the haunting familiarity seeping through your veins that renders you paralysed in a state of pre-emptive deja-vu. What follows is the acceptance of an inevitable disaster that unceremoniously hurtles us back to the comfort of Bigfooty to dissect what may have been.
This I fear is one such time.

Having said that Dees by 7 points (even against all sense of reason in my body I just can't tip against the boys)

With one beautiful, concise paragraph you have summarised the existence of a Demons supporter. :thumbsu:

Haunting.

This week against the hawks all members get in with their memberships to make up for the home game against Port in Darwin...

Get on down to the G on Sunday!!!!!!

Really? I couldn't find anything on the MFC website about that - any more info??

Did you get a blue fixture magnet with your membership at the start of the year? It is marked on that.

Woop just checked and you are right, I am bringing a guy that I am in the middle of converting (he already accidently said we when referring to melbourne, so i am getting there) I think the final nail in the coffin will be if we win, and play some bloody good football, sydney would have been the best game though to bring him....

None the less.

And For everyones info he follows soccer so not an AFL fan, but I have converted a Geelong member previous and he ended up getting a dees and a cats membership :p

Converted older son, and we're both now going to try to convert the younger son.

Wow that was incredible... probably some of the most complex English ever seen in the world of Web Forums, let alone BigFooty. And, as d33my said, hauntingly concise and accurate.

You're not the poet guy from last week are you?

big danger game for us no doubt, i have a dreadful feeling we have run our race this year judging by the last 2 results and am hoping they were only aberrations in our quest to play finals, we will find out this weekend who wants to play finals more. If we turn up with the intensity we had for so long we should win, if we allow you blokes time to create space and run you will cut us up, Im hoping our backline can stand up this week, they have been shocking 2 weeks in a row bar stratton. You should look to exploit that.

I think the thing is with melbourne if someone gets a 4 goal jump on us we tend to struggle, we make a mini comeback then we lose, if we put a 4 goal lead on the opposition we end up spanking them

This is our biggest and most meaningful game since the 2006 finals series, we must come ready to play and put in a good performance. Hawthorn will be breathing fire after Kennetts comments earlier in the week. This will be a physical game and great test for our youngsters to see how they stand up. We have a great oppourtunity to prove to ourselves and the competition that the Melbourne Football Club is back in business!

I have no doubt they'll physically target a few of our players (Watts, Jurrah, Davey, Wonnaemirri, Bennell) and we should be prepared for that. I'd include Scully and Trengove in there but to be honest I can't see them taking a backward step so it would be pointless to target them.

Really hope Watts has a good one this week, all the attention will be on Green and Dunn and hopefully he can snag a few.

Dees by 3.

so annoyed im taking a cricket coaching course.. so will only be able to watch the second half on TV, and not make it to the game :(
