Gday guys
Hope you don't mind me asking on your board, but over our way we're getting geared up for what will be hopefully a very good game against you blokes. Obviously you start warm faves, but we're in some good form too and play Etihad pretty well (not as well as you), so I reckon it might be a cracker. Your defense is awesome (reminds me of ours a few years ago but is possibly even better), and will probably be crucial to the result. Obviously the likes of Hayes, DalSanto, Fisher, Schneider, Gram, Goddard Montagna and others are in top form too this year, we are under no illusions that it will be easy. However our defence in the last 5-6 weeks is back to its old self once again too, our midfield is becoming a force again (and not based on our grand old three anymore), and we have found a great forward structure finally..........so it'll certainly be a great game.

Anyway, just wondering what you see as the key matchups in this one. In particular, who would you see as direct matchups for:

Up forward
Tippet
Porplyzia
Dangerfield (and onball)
Knights (and onball)
Stevens

Onballers/Wing
Vince
Thompson
Edwards
McKay (could play HFF)

Down back
Macleod
Otten
Bock
Johncock
Rutten

After last game (which I went to at AAMI), I thought (probably obviously) that Riewoldt and Koschitzke were hard matchups for us, but since then Truck and Bock are hitting their straps again so it may be closer this time. Milne will always be a pain in opposition backsides, and I'm not sure who we'll put on him yet.

Obviously this is not the full list but these ones were of particular interest to me. And no I haven't seen enough of you guys to know what the key matchups will be all around the ground, which is why I am asking those who know. ;)

Cheers guys and good luck (but not too much :thumbsu:)

Up forward
Tippet Jason Blake
Porplyzia Sam Fisher
Dangerfield (and onball) Raph Clarke
Knights (and onball) Sam Gilbert
Stevens Zach Dawson

Onballers/Wing[/U ]
Vince Leigh Montagna
Thompson Clint Jones
Edwards Lenny Hayes
McKay (could play HFF) Baker if he plays forward

Down back
Macleod Andrew McQualter
Otten Adam Schneider
Bock Nick Riwoldt
Johncock Stephen Milne
Rutten Justin Koschitzke

:):)

Up forward
Tippet - Cougar Dawson - The obvious matchup.
Porplyzia - Gilbert - Has the speed and the leap to combat him.
Dangerfield (and onball) - Goddard - might make him work defensively.
Knights (and onball) - Geary - If he is back.
Stevens - Fisher - Will be able to make him work defensively too.

Onballers/Wing
Vince - Baker - Will take him out of his comfort zone
Thompson - Jones - Will annoy the crap out of him and disrupt his effectiveness
Edwards - Hayes or NDS - Head to Head.
McKay (could play HFF) - Ball - if he plays or maybe Farren Ray.

Down back
Mcleod - Milney - Can watch him closely but will make him work the other way.
Otten - Schneider - We actually played Gwilt on him last game.
Bock - Reiwoldt - Has the tank to run with him and will make Rooey respect his disposal
Johncock - Dempster - Will run him ragged.
Rutten - Kosi - He has been leading from the square so Truck will look after him.

Well thats my pick for what it's worth.

I received this PM from one of the Adelaide posters:

Hey guys,

On the Adelaide Board, we have a thread called FaceOff. Basically one of our posters is rostered to write a comprehensive preview for Adelaide including things such as game styles, injuries, key players, key match ups, who's under the radar, any X-factors, and a prediction of the resort. As part of our FaceOff threads, we invite a poster from the opposing team to make a post based on these guidelines.

I'm writing to you guys, as mods, to see if you know of any St Kilda posters on your board that you think would be willing to make a contribution to our FaceOff threads. Based on your recommendations, I can then PM those posters to invite them to contribute to FaceOff. You can nominate yourself if you would like to do it yourself, as our mods do a couple of rounds themselves.

Thanks for your help guys.

Hmm..... very different preferences in matchups on our forwards so far, completely different choices. Interesting stuff.

Would put Bakes on Dangerfield. Kids a gun but he's young and I reckon Baker could really get in his head, plus similar sizes.

Max on Porplyzia if he's back, if not Dempster or Fish.

I think it's important we find both Fish and Gilbert genuine forward matchups so they don't get forward tagged out of the game.

Something to consider is that Burton and/or Walker could both possibly make a return, which would make the potential inclusion of Max even more important.

Jones to Thompson, rest of the mids should take care of themself.

Some interesting ones there guys.
TassieSaint - good call, but my gut feeling is Walker will be made to earn his place back in the side, and Burton will come back in. Craig loves Burton - was raving about him just the other day, and he has had his 2 sanfl games to prove his knee's OK. I think he'll play, possible for Reilly to go out. Also not sure if you're aware, but Vince is rapidly becoming our best midfielder, often has more pill than Thommo of late and kicks a few more goals. Dangerfield hasn't been having huge possessions yet, but he wins more contested ball than anyone else on the field lately. Baker on him would be interesting.
Kildonan, as I said, we don't get many St Kilda games over here, so I can't really comment too much on your possible structures. I'm not sure about a couple of the Adelaide ones though - particularly McLeod in a forward pocket and Dangerfield starting on the ball - will probably start up forward I'd imagine, and Macca on his regular HBF. If Shirley plays, he'll probably just tag your best mid - would that be Montagna at the moment?
