After footy yesterday, I was talking to my mate who plays for Coburg and he gave me some insight into Matty Arnot.

He told me that Arnot has all the ability in the world. Skillful, strong, smart.

However, his temper is what will restrict him.

Apparently he has been told that if he does not get his aggression and temper in check, then he will never play an AFL game.

The news of Tuck being out could be the best thing to happen to us because we have someone who could cover the loss of Tuck and we could potential uncover a gem!

Fingers crossed though, that he can work on not getting reported every 2 weeks and we most definitely have a player on our hands!

Might be an idea to schedule a little meeting with Choco Williams....

Surely the incentive of increased pay, fame and the opportunity to play in front of the Tiger Army are enough to prevent Arnot from doing stupid things on the football field. I like his aggression as it is something that helps us intimidate the opposition which is why a player like Jake King has such a high value to us nowadays. I think he should talk to Jake about any issues he has because Jake has been able to reduce his reports more recently and hopefully Arnot can avoid a record all together.

I'd love to see him beat up on the Melbourne midfield, he is probably better than 2/3 of their team.

King has a lot more maturity on Arnot but he's also not putting himself in the position where he's getting angry. Arnot probably will. Aggression vented appropriately and controlled can be very useful in getting that extra bit of performance out but until Arnot starts to experience those situations he won't learn how to do it.

I like that he's getting time at VFL, I like that all our kids are, been a long time since we've been able to develop in the 2's and not force kids to be called up.

Agree that it would be a good game for Arnot to get a chance in.

Sadly some people have a real issue with anger - speaking from experience. I've played with guys in the past who aren't stupid. Guys we've sat down and spoken to about not doing anything stupid, avoiding confrontations out of play, keeping focus on the game etc. However when the adrenaline is up and someone gets in their ear, they can't help themselves. I think it is a real psychological disorder because they cannot seem to control it. Hope Arnot is able to get a grip on it.

We just cannot afford someones ego/temper giving away stupid frees and 50 metre penalties - it can cost us goals, which may cost us games, which will cost us a spot in the 8

i used to be exactly like this when i played basketball, i played a very high level, and my inability to curb my anger got me kicked out eventually. The club sat me down and spoke with me numerous times, and for a few weeks after id be ok, and then one week id just snap and that would be it, hopefully he learns to deal with it better then i did. Its strange because its usually the quietest, most subdued people off the field of play that are the most psycho on it

Do not understand the love. To me has not shown nearly enough to deserve a game. Plenty of blokes getting 20d's in the VFL
Have you watched him play, went to the box hill game, was a cut above , broke the lines, was physical, loves to tackle and was clean with the ball, has the tools to cut it at afl

I like the reference to King when comparing Arnot and his aggro

Remember when Kingy was played as a defender/ BP. His aggression would always get the better of him - he'd either get towel led or reported or both.
Kingy was then switched to the forward line where he became far more creative.

Maybe just maybe we need to put Arnot in a position where he can creatively channel his aggression- HFF to take Chris Knights' spot...maybe?

Kingy has improved his anger control, but ffs it has taken some years.
One can only hope that people are scared to niggle Arnot, for the fear of what he will do in return.

I only know of Arnot from the pre season games. I don't recall him being out of control in those so I wouldn't mind him playing a couple of games to see how he goes. I think benefits would outweight costs.

tbh i didnt even know he had a short fuse as I havent been to many coburg games this season.
But yes, I agree, he's playing well each week so get him in the yellow and black as he can obviously play. He might thrive at the higher level but we'll never know unless we pick him. The rabble we play this week might be the perfect time.

Out: Arnott (white line fever)

Have seen him a few times this year and I am continually impressed by him. Hopefully losing his shit on the field is not the thing stopping him from playing, especially now with Tuck and Knights out and Conca a few weeks away.

Who's playing better, him or Lonergan?

It's funny these days seeing Kingy angry and trying to curb it. You can tell he's really making a concerted effort to channel it. Has done wonders for his footy though. In the top 3 at the club for most improved.

Who's playing better, him or Lonergan?

Hard to say I think both had limited game time last game because of Tuck and Foley playing in the middle. Arnot did however have 29 disposals at 79% and kicked a goal the week before. Lonergan has been coming back from injury though but I would save him until later in the season and use this game to trial Arnot. Obviously Lonergan doesn't need any exposure and is fully aware of how to play at AFL level while Arnot hasn't played a game.

The only thing I would say to that though is we are playing for finals, so first 22 spots shouldn't be for testing players anymore. If Arnot is playing better, he should get the role, but if he isn't, he shouldn't get it just for development.

We need wins!!!
