Jen - you know what would have been the perfect way to let them know the AFC supporters were not happy with this.

If the AFC CEO had handled it differently and actually stood up for his bloke. We could have rallied around that.

We can still try I guess, but the handling of Rendell by his own club is where it was ALWAYS going to be a won or lost cause.

Sure, it sounds like they were looking at mediation etc.. then with the media revelation on the Thursday... made a snap judgement and now many of us are bitterly disappointed in not just the AFL but our own club.

Wow, what a load of shit that Marngrook 'interview' was.

If the kind of program Rendell suggested is already about to be done, is it racist because a non-Indigenous guy suggested it?

This smells to high heaven even more than it did before, if that's possible.

Who revealed it to the media? Who held a press conference? 32 hours the key player was not available for Trigg to speak to.

If it smells like shit it probably is shit.

"Now we can start the conversation"

The conversation started here long before we were "allowed" to start the conversation.

"Education by the AFL"
Now that we all need educating where is Roby to educate us?

For the players, the AFL mediate

For a recruiter, AFL destroy him

Hypocritical much

I disagree Bigfella. Trigg was stuck between a rock and ****ing great big boulder. It's all well and good for us to say he should have stuck by Matty - but his first and main priority will always be - MUST always be - the Club. That's his job. Matt is a good mate and this would have killed Triggy to do, but he had no other choice and Rendell can see that - and has said as much himself.

I can't see that it can hurt to keep asking questions though - even of Trigg if you are not happy with how he handled things. Certainly of King Vlad and his band of merry men. And now these other two characters have surfaced - definitely them!

No, it can't hurt. Agree with that. And I'm not saying it was easy for Trigg - far from it.

I've already flicked through that email to Triggy, if he gets around to answering it I'll definitely engage in some dialogue with him. But I don't expect he'll have the time/willingness to keep going over it.

I think we have more or less worked out what happened ourselves.
Matt got a bit over enthusiastic about his pet project, put miss fudd's nose out of joint who already had similar things running and felt personally insulted.
I agree there is no education without telling us what was so terrible. We are none the wiser at all.
I am one of the sympathetic ones and still think the whole thing stinks.

Your a club CEO and you get told Wednesday afternoon that your recruiting officer should be questioned over offensive remarks made to an AFL officer - you are told to handle it internally by AFL CEO. You are told that the person will remain anonymous and kept out of the press until you have handled.

The path you wish to take is to mediate a solution between the participating parties.

You spend Thursday trying to speak to said AFL officer - you probably think you have until next week to conclude your investigation as you know your recruiting officer has a scheduled flight to Perth? on Friday. Your club also has a big game on Saturday and the last thing you want to do is bring this out in the media before the game.

Thursday evening you probably think you will definitely be able to speak to the offended AFL officer the following day. When Friday arrives you find that the story has hit the headlines and the AFL CEO has been on radio calling for this anonymous recruiting officer to prepare to find new employment.

After speaking to offended AFL officer you conclude that this is enough for you to act and bring situation to a head.

OR

HYPOTHETICAL - If you were told/or thought that a media outlet was about to expose that your club was the club involved (Adelaide media were at Wednesday 7 season launch and could have noted CEO's exchange )- this would lead to an accelerated need to deal with the situation - everything on Friday was such a rush with Rendell having his travel arrangements halted on the day. Any delay would expose your club to be labelled and tarnished.

(Trigg told Rendell it was too late for him to tell his side to the media - it was now out of his control - this says to me that he was about to be exposed)

Could this hypothetical explain the acceleration of events on Friday?

I can't help but wonder if Trigg didn't have any aspirations to move further up the AFL and was perfectly happy in his current position if he would have done the exact same thing or whether he would have tried to defend Rendell a little more.

And ladies and gentlemen the only man in the televised media making sense this week - i give you SAM NEWMAN

Sam Newman and Grant Thomas.

The only two people in a whole industry of 'hard-hitting' media who actually are 'hard-hitting'.

Very well said Sam, but unfortunately that will be the last we publicly hear on the subject.

@jason_mifsud Did you claim to play in the game where Nicky Winmar lifted his jumper? You know those things are pretty easy to check?

@MattyB_76 was listed at St Kilda in '93 and played in the Reserves that day at Vic Park. Significant moment

Haha. Lying doesn't help your already dodgy credibility.

The article in the paper says "McAdam slammed Rendell for his views" when he made it clear that what he said were not his views. The whole thing just gets more convoluted as time goes on. Interpretations of interpretations.

let me assure you that Matt Rendell used inappropriate, offensive and racial language throughout a 20 min meeting with @jason_mifsud

- So offensive that nothing was said for 6 weeks!

Do I think Matt Rendell is a racist person? Absolutely Not!!! Do I believe in second chances? Absolutely!!!

Exactly! These two men are seriously becoming possibly THE worst thing for reconciliation. I think they've set the cause back by decades with this.
Sadly, that's probably true.

There was no calm, rational thought given to resolving this. Immediately stringing him up was a terrible thing to do, as it just polarizes people.
