FWIW, Paine has played eight w/k in Shield innings this season, scoring 95 runs @ 15.83, with 14 catches and no stumpings (1.75 dismissals per innings).

Haddin has played seven w/k in Shield innings this season, scoring 337 runs @ 67.40, with 14 catches and one stumping (2.14).

Hartley has played twelve w/k in Shield innings this season, scoring 312 runs @ 34.66, with 31 catches and one stumping (2.66).

exactly. looking at just dismissals, Wade is the 2nd best keeper in the world. And most hundreds, does that make him the best keeper/batsman?

Looking at just stats, Cowan and Warner were the best opening combination in the world last year.

Stats don't always tell the whole story. :)

but then there isnt really a statistic tow which you can judge a wicket keeper on. its really just a feeling on how they are going. you can't really say one players keeping is worth x amount of runs and thats what he needs to average more than the next best. But because runs scored is the most quantifyable statistic for any keeper/batsman it gets over valued.

I liked how a poster above mentioned keepers should be judged on how many chances they miss.

Perhaps the sum should be...

chances missed/total number of chances presented?

So while Wade may be in the two few keepers in the world based on chances taken, I dare say he would rank in the top few for the percentage of chances he fluffs. Only to the spinners, mind; he does a fine job against the seamers. But that isn't where a keeper is truly tested.

He really needs to work on his technique when keeping up to the stumps. Other than that I've been pretty happy with Wade. He's making runs and his catching has been pretty good.

I'd say Haddin is probably better up to the stumps but like others have said, he throws his wicket away. Also why bother giving Haddin more time when he's already approaching retirement age anyway?

Haddin isn't much better up to the stumps than Wade, if at all. I've seen him miss too many stumpings and catches to whoever the poor schmuck is that is given the spin bowler's job for Aus to rate Haddin at all as a keeper to spin bowlers.

Paine is the only one I've seen cope well up to the stumps. Wade needs time more than anything else. It's a very hard job keeping in a test match if you have spent a long time at the crease batting as well. The concentration levels are so hard to maintain when you are doing two jobs for extended periods.

the revision of haddin as a quality keeper is laughable.
haddin was a rubbish keeper, his dropped catches and missed chances cost us plenty.
he was an adequate batsman.
Gilchrist was a fine keeper, and only marginally behind healy and was worth his salt as a keeper for a season after his batting declined. He gave it away when his keeping failed.
healy was an average to ordinarly batsman and a great keeper keeper.
wade struggles with our spin bowlers.
Haddin struggles with everything.

Everything I heard about Wade prior to his ascension was true.

He isn't a test quality keeper.

I like my keeper's being able to hold the willow. But there is a non-negotiable, you have to be able to keep wicket at an acceptable level. That doesn't mean everyone has to be Rod Marsh behind the stumps, but keeping errors to a minimum would be a start. Wade misses at least an opportunity a test, largely due to his footwork being horrible.

And just because I don't think Wade should have the spot, doesn't mean I think Haddin should be back in.

Not having exposure to many of the domestic keepers, if Neville can keep well or Paine can get a full season or two without injury, then they should be getting the gig.

"He's not happy at all. He didn't have a good summer with the gloves at all," Healy told Radio Sport National on Friday. "Even some of the basic stuff that he's not tidying up, he's not getting to the stumps, he's not taking returns well, he's not sharpening up the fielding effort. Even those basic disciplines weren't being created, let alone missed dismissals.
"Nathan Lyon wouldn't have been that happy, there were four or five chances missed from his bowling. He's getting criticised for not taking wickets. These are all the little internal conflicts of an under-achieving wicketkeeper. Matthew Wade says he's still young and he wants to keep improving, but I don't think he's that young. He's 25.

"If he is keeping for Australia, these sort of things have to be done, and they have to be done better. We're playing against Sri Lanka, it's not as if we're playing against South Africa or England for five Tests [where] we need everything taken. He needs to really get a look at what Brad Haddin is doing and try to find a way to get it done himself.

Healy reaffirms his position as the biggest flog in in the the cricket world. There's nothing wrong with stating an opinion and saying Wade needs to improve but this is nothing more than a personal attack in the hope of getting his mate back in.

Which part was incorrect?
Two things, I haven't seen a discipline problem with Wade in terms of getting up to the stumps or taking returns cleanly, Healy is just knit picking there. Secondly, "he needs to take a look at what Brad Haddin is doing". Why does he need to look at what Haddin is doing? Haddin isn't exactly the greatest gloveman either.

What? You mean someone not from NSW rates Haddin? Take the blinkers off FFS.

Healy's criticisms are valid. Wade has shown an unwillingness or inability to get the one-percenters right all summer, not to mention missing regulation dismissals. If he misses a dismissal for the second wicket with Cook and Trott at the crease as he did at the SCG with Jayawardene it could be Ashes over.

Wade has to step up. Failing that, we go back to Haddin. Some of you are just so blinded by hatred it's ridiculous.

I am not talking about Wade's 'regulation dismissal's' that he's missed. Of course they were poor, I'm not denying that. Can you give an example of Wade's unwillingness to 'get the one-percenters right'?

I'm not blinded by hatred to Haddin. I think he's been a very good player for Australia over the years, I've even suggested he be picked as Hussey's replacement. But I fail to see the logic in taking someone out for their ordinary glovework, and bringing in an ordinary gloveman.
