No perfectly fair if poorly executed hit. Davey on the other hand could have some problems judging by the way the tribunal have been treating head high contact.

I will be extremely annoyed if they don't throw out his case at the 1st possible opportunity. What the hell is a guy meant to do - not tackle! Say oh you slipped & ducked your head, here let me help you up?

Important time for the tribunal to test if they really do want to turn the game into netball. There was nothing in the Whelan incident except body contact that should be expected. I also thought there was nothing that warranted more than a free (plus should have been 50) in the charge of Basset on Jetta. There's too many softc^&ks in the media looking to crucify the game. Then you have nerds like Anderson at the AFL who no doubt was picked on in the schoolyard. Its meant to be hard & tough. Thats why we admire guys like Archer & Hird because they are brave! Take out the physical threat & you lose the need for bravery.

Ball did not see him coming or protect himself. fair bump. they clashed heads so therefore contact was not high. it just shows the dangerous element of the game. its a contact sport these things happen

Ball is a brick...he's supposed to be pretty smart but how many of these sorta headshots can he take ?..just strap a bandage on his head permanantly.

Enormous effort to play out the game and contribute well...he woulda been seeing stars.

1-2 weeks based on others..but shouldnt go.

I think Bally's going to wear a Helmet in next weeks game possibly... fair bump, mostly, it was the 'whiplash'' with Whelans head that hit balls hit, Whelan broken jaw aint it? and bally is just badly bruised but got back on and played, still a bit gorggy. anything from 0-4 weeks I think.

It's really funny to see how the game and attitudes have changed.


I remember the Whelan-Ball bump and how nasty it was. Going by this thread though, at that stage (2007 I think) it was consider fair game - even though a dude got bruising on the brain out of it!


Right now, Whelan would probably get 4 weeks due to the head high contact and the severity of it.
And most people would be cool with it too I'd say.

How times change! But have they changed for the better?
