I knew about the rookie rule. I was hoping you were right mateJust checked the 2016 and 2017 rules, looks like you're right. Ugh, I thought they changed that years ago.
Sorry gandaal, looks like you're right.
Only if that 3rd list change is a rookie upgrade.
Trades, FAs, DFAs don’t count.

cheers, g-man - I got nothing on interstate players at this level - complicates things heaps more for me - thanks, again! If we held the rookie draft today and Carlton had the first three picks but could only grab mature aged players I'd take the following:
1. Marlion Pickett: I'm a bit surprised he didn't get picked up already. Maybe he wants to stay in WA or he has issues. Interesting backstory, and at 26 he's only for the short term but we need players who can walk into the seniors and play at a high level.
2. Mitch Grigg: I'm not sure he's AFL material but he'll do a job in the seniors and he'll teach the kids what's required in the vfl. Best mid not in the AFL.
3. Michael Gibbons: Completes the set. Best mid from the WAFL, the SANFL and the VFL.
Just three ready made mids who can replace the injured, replace the young stars when they need a rest, and provide protection and leadership for those developing in the VFL.
course all we need now is that bloke we shoveled to geelong to turn out a jet...............just wish sometimes.......
expecting, "use your imagination, and fill in the blanks, FFS!", type reply.Add some depth to your posts, FFS!!
Be impressed when you invent a three dimensional propagating post.w

Who?Heard we are into Bewley as are two other teams.. he an penrith as rookies with Goddard would be great cover
Strategically, I don't mind the idea of taking the best interstate mature age prospects.
I think Geelong missed a trick this year - they gave up Pick 24 for Tim Kelly, got a fantastic return on their investment this year as far as his form went, and could have secured picks 20, 22 and a future second (~35) by trading him to WC. If you approached a list manager with an offer of Picks 20, 22 and 35 (over two years) for Pick 24....
Instead, Geelong dug their heels in. Maybe Kelly gives them another 20+ class games. Maybe the strain at home gets too much and his form suffers, or he takes personal leave. Either way, when he's out of contract next year, odds are Geelong get nowhere near what was on the table this year.
So yeah - use Picks 70 and 77 or whatever they are on a couple of promising mature agers from WA. Let them show their wares in 2019, making us a bit more competitive and allowing more development of the kids, then trade them to a desperate Freo in 12 months time for picks in the range of 40-60.
Cats think they are still contenders. Going to milk this thing for all it's worth.
Disagree, they wanted a top 10 pick and I think they will get a better pick than what was offered this year.Dangerous game to play. Mental health is becoming less taboo within the football industry, so if Kelly's home life starts to take a hit because his wife is unhappy or suffering without her family network it's not a big stretch to see Tim taking an indefinite leave of absence to support her.
Really think Geelong should have taken the offer. They knew the risk in selecting a mature age interstate player with a young family. Take him, get some good footy, flip him for a profit.
