The good thing about Macca's game was that his kicking was a lot better. The rest he has always done reasonably well - he has always been able to pull down a good mark is good overhead, is hard at it....but his kicking.....

I think he has always been the better of our endless supply of "fringe" tall forwards but consistency is the key, can he keep it up, lets just give him a chance and see how he goes.

The other fringe forward, who I am not sure should be there, is Mackie - has his disposal and decision making gotten a lot worse or have I just been overlooking it. What exactly is his role?? Pretty poor return from a no 7 or 8 pick.

Our performance today was just average - although it was 65 points Carlton weren't that far behind us. We are still very sloppy ATM.

Ling is better back tagging, King and Otto were a little better than serviceable and maybe that is all we will ever get from them now. Gaz Chappy, Mooney, Bartel are just getting better and better each week - stars. Woj is improving, I love seeing Scarlo kick goals on Fevola, Tenace is improving, I like Egan but he still has a way to go, Prismall looked good - nice finisher, the Corey's are just workhorses although disposal is sometimes wanting, Stokes has been handy, good to see Rooke back in the thick of it and a reasonable contribution from DJ.

Not a bad performance but a long way from a good one. We still have a lot of work to do.

Most of his goals came from 20m-30m out under a roof.

McCarthy's action while kicking was still terrible. He jerks his right hand into his ribs as he lets the ball go, i cringed everytime I saw it. But good luck to him!

Yeah, it looks awkward. But many good forwards have unorthodox kicking styles so I hope he has improved his accuracy.

It was a bit easier at the Dome and with most goals coming from close range.

Yeah - his kicking style is suspect - and yes I can't understand the histerics - they were not overly difficult set shots but a couple of years ago I would not have been confident on any making it thru.

I haven't seen his performance in the VFL so I am not sure whether there is some consistency to his kicking - really that was the bad part of game.

I hope is can keep it going.

He was pretty good against Tassie a few weeks back...

The true nature of this thread aside, I'm not ready to concede anything with Mac.

Happy he played well, but not convinced by any stretch of the imagination just yet.

some tough critics out there. The guy comes back from 12 months out and kicks 5 goals, thats a pretty good effort regardless of the oposition i would think...

The guy is a great mark, and it is far harder to teach that than it is to teach kicking, so i am pretty happy with him, its what geelong needs, strong contested marking in the forward line. Ottens can be good, and mooney is great, but Nathan hasn't been able to hang onto them, and kingsley cant mark the sitters let alone the contested grabs.

i hope he backs it up and gets to spend some time in the squad to get the exposure and experience to develop into a quality player.

I guess this week the saviour may get crucified.....not a great game for McCarthy but did enough to remain in the team.
Agreed. He lead ALOT better than NA or Lonergon have this year, and he took some good marks. His kicking in play was good aswell, just going for goal was crap.

We need him to play well so we don't have to watch KK!!!

I thought he was ok today. It was just his kicking that let him down (badly).

McCarthy's kicking today turned back the clock (that's a bad thing). Absolutely terrible.

He did enough in marking terms to stay in the team. Plus, Mooney will be having a break next week courtesy of the tribunal.

Hasn't that always been the story though?

Macca's kicking mechanics are far too flawed to fully maximise his aerial ability. The true shame is his inability (or perhaps the coaching staff's) to fix the flaw, when it is hardly something that can't be done.
