Your opinion and your entitled to it, but it is still most certainly the best stadium in this country ( yes i have been to the adelaide oval for footy and cricket ) in my opinion, a close prelim or grand final at the mcg or the sound the crowd made when mcculum got knocked over in the world cup final well quite simply nothing compares... And the facilities are still fine.

So basically your argument as to why the MCG is the best is that it has a large crowd capacity and they make noise. Something which wouldn't be affected by a roof.

The facilities are fine, the ground capacity is elite.

So basically any stadium with a capacity greater than the MCG would be better by that logic.

The MCG has a ridiculous level of religion about it by Victorians. Twas there for a prelim with 95,000 was amazing - also been there with 20000 and it was shit.

Given the choice of most games played - give me etihad anyday. Comfortable, easier walk, under cover and better viewing.

Building a roof over the G is a complete waste of money. What they should do instead is build a closed roof boutique stadium above the G, therefore acting as both a roof and a new stadium for when they knock down Etihad. The rail can then be sunk underneath both the G and new sky stadium consolidating both stadiums in one floor plan. A much wiser use of tax payers dollars.

the cost would outweigh the benefit by a long way. could build another stadium for that cost.

but let's not just rubbish ideas because it's 'fine the way it is'. black and white tv was fine the way it was apparently

Wouldnt be against extending the current roof out a bit further for patrons comfort but as far as the field being covered, no thanks.
Wouldn't you then have a Dome roof open type situation where you wouldn't be able to make out who's who on sunny days

Put a roof on made up of LED lights on the ground-side and set them to sky blue to resemble the sky. They could even advertise up there or mimic the sky and have certain lights switch to white to resemble clouds

:drunk:

You mean like the current led stuff but much more?

The day I stop going to the footy. What we have now is bad enough

It's confusing when the ads are scrolling up and down the field. I don't mind them changing, but the movement is horrible

How else is footy going to played, the sun in 2055 will burn skin like meat on a barbie, and the air will be to toxic to breathe, Forward thinking. From the afl. The next idea they should be working on has to be robot umpires. This will stop umpires constantly rigging collingwood games .

The MCC is its own organisation. How would a contract with the AFL effect or even guarantee that?

It's one of the legacies of Jeff Kennett. A number of his projects got built under the condition that they got a monopoly. Examples include -
- Citylink given a monopoly by narrowing or blocking off streets and roads that could have been used to avoid the Citylink tolls.
- Crown casino getting guaranteed that no other casino be built in Victoria until at least 2050.
- Etihad Stadium being guaranteed that no other roofed or larger stadiums being built.
These were all locked in by watertight legislation. Fortunately the AFL has got one of these monkeys off everyone's back.
Now they just have to work on the other two but I'm not holding my breath.

A giant Nescafe tin will do it....

It would appear the MCC has some penis envy over the new Perth Stadium. o_O
