Was anybody listening to Trade Week Radio that can clarify what Wallace was saying about the McMahon trade. He mentioned we were going to use pick 19 on Scott Selwood, but WC screwed us over in some way and we took Morton at 33 in good faith. So our draft should've read:

2.Cotchin
18.Rance
19.Scott Selwood
33.McMahon
Preseason draft.Morton

Instead of

2.Cotchin
18.Rance
19.MCMahon
33.Morton
preseason.Gourdis

He said we were going to take Morton in the PSD and use our 3rd pick (33 or whatever) to get McMahon. We had a heads of agreement with the Bullflogs on this. Then, apparently unbeknownst to Wallace, someone (he wouldn't say who) signed off on a deal with WC to trade Morton for our 3rd rounder. The idea being that if the Judd deal fell through with Carlton, then we would be in the good books with WC, since we were willing to use our pick 2 (Cotchin) on Judd. This meant that we no longer had that 3rd round pick to use for McMahon so we were forced to use our pick 19 instead.

To me it wreaks of two things:
1) Some details being filled in after the facts to suit the story being told.
2) A very dysfunctional list management team, people playing to their own agendas. Nothing we hadn't already concluded though I guess.

Nice to seemingly have everyone pushing in the same direction for once.

Who cares now, the horse has bolted.....lets move on...

Why couldn't we have just canned the McMahon trade and keep #19?

They were my thoughts. Sounded like Wallace was trying to suggest we were locked in to the deal with the Dogs, but was very unconvincing to me.

Wallace may be BSing to some extent but I think #2 is closer to the mark.

The club was never entirely behind him 100% and people were very much pulling in their own direction.

It is the fault of all involved, not just the TW Miller faction.

It has been our problem for 30 years and we can all just cross our fingers this has ended with Dimma and Bennys appointments. Early signs are good. But only cause Dimma has time on his hands atm

McMahon was a massive mistake but Scott Selwood is pretty ordinary anyways. Didn't miss out on a superstar there given we were going to pick him not Callan Ward.
Agree. It seems that pick was always going haunt us no matter what.

Does everyone remember Greg Miller saying that we were in the box seat for Judd?
Well now you know why that was the case.

Would you prefer Cotchin or Judd?

I would prefer Cotchin because:

1. He is a gun and will be a top 5 mid but so is Judd
2. If we had of got Judd it would have been a false dawn. We would be in the same position as Carlton finishing around the 8 and not having an impact. We would not have then bottomed out and got players like Martin.
3. Wallace and Miller would still be in charge.

The sad part is he's now being labelled by Hunchy as the best list manager in the business:confused:

been watching the last couple of Future TAC stars on C9 on sundays, i have to have a bucket nearby so i can vomit each time Hutchy swings to the spin doctor to evaluate where a team's list is atm and what they need. ;)

Exactly.

As a result we got Morton and Gourdis instead of Morton and Selwood.

Selwood is a fair hack and I would much prefer to have Gourdis.

Keep on spinning Terry. I get so dizzy from your spin that I'll spew up.

I want TW to just tell us all the Punt Rd ins-and-outs that we never knew about that contributed to HIS failure right now - all of them - so it's over and done with and we never have to mention him again.

theres alot od bs going on there ! i remember at the time that we were in a bidding war with port over who got mcmuffin & we persuaded him by offering him 1mil & offering dogs pick 19 !!

westcoast & morton deals were a given , when miller & westcoast made the deal to keep the bastards (blues) honest by threatening to swoop on judd if he went psd ....................the payback was morton for 35

we should of had ward, rance, gourdis psd

:)THE only conclusion I can draw from all this is that it finally puts paid to all the useless, ill-thought out threads re us drafting Callan Ward instead of recruiting Jordy McMahon. Ward never figured in our plans .... never!!! So we don't have kep bringing him up as some kind of mistake!!! McMahon wa sthe mistake - can't say Scott Selwood would have been any better!
