I think if Macca had played for the Eagles he would enjoy a similar rep to someone like Mainwaring.

I'm speechless...

Macca is a club legend and deserves to go out on his own terms. Hopefully Harvey will keep him up to date on how he thinks he is going so Macca knows when the time is right.

Harvey should tell him it was three years ago. I was completely baffled when they offered him a new contract.

Well I don't agree with some of the posters that say McManus is a legend. He has been at the club for a long time, too long in my eyes, but being somewhere a long time does not automatically make him a legend. I can think of several people i have worked with, at several different companies that have been there a long time and a lot of them have had mediocre contributions to the overall output of the company.

Is his work rate good? Well a few years ago it was better than it is now but even at his best, probably when he was the club captain around 2000, his work rate was hampered by his poor disposal. Even at his peak, he struggled to deliver the ball into the forward line efficiently. One thing I can't understand is why do people defend his poor skill level??? Saying things like "he's not the most skillful player but he tries hard". When we lose and the forwards dont get the ball delivered to them properly ie the ball was over their head or at their feet, or there are turnovers and free kicks against us (see maccas game losing head high tackle on archer in the opposition goal square v roos in the last 5 minutes of game last year at subi ) as has happened quite a lot over the years McManus was one of the main culprits. You can't want to win and yet carry a guy with substandard skills.

His decision making is bad. Yesterday (v Carlton) his stats will again tell you he played a decent game. Well in the last quarter when the game was there to be won i saw him carry the ball too far, get into trouble, give off a handball to a flat footed player that put him under pressure, get the ball back, and then again handball to another guy who was under pressure. Thats 2 handballs on the stats sheet. And probably a mark as well when he first got the ball. But the value of that passage of play was, well, not very valuable. A smarter thing to do, if nothing was on up field would have been to kick long for the boundary. Its football basics. He just isn't a very smart footballer.

Surely the time has come. We cant make the finals this year, well its not mathematically impossible, but it is very unlikely even for the most optimistic freo fan.

FFS, McManus, take the lead from MCarr and retire!

Blah blah blah (see maccas game losing head high tackle on archer in the opposition goal square v roos in the last 5 minutes of game last year at subi ) Blah blah blah

If he didn't lay a tackle you would still be crying, talk about straw clutcing.

Stop bashing and get behind the club, FFS Bandwagoners

edit: well said Billy

Drop it Mate. The season is shot and he will be gone at years end. Your record player needs a new stylus due to your noise is getting boring. AND, don't you dare question Shaun McManus and his commitment to Fremantle. It's guys like him and Parks that were the corner stone of our club in the latter years. Today where players hawk themselves for the highest price it's guys like McManus that keep the true meaning of the word "CLUB". Now just pull your head in.

Yep, Can't shut anyone decent down , time to give it away and let Foster or Dunn shine.

It was only last year when he shut McLeod down in Adelaide in a win. Not that long ago.

In the midst of this losing streak, everyone looks bad. Macca was on the list to provide depth and experience, not necessarily to front up every week. Unfortunately he has too.

If Peak and quite a few others had his shear determination and commitment to each contest then Freo would easily be in the 8 and Harvey wouldn't be under so much pressure.

Let the gutsiest player in your history go out on his terms like we will with Braun and Wirra.

He has shown great loyalty to your club and it's not his fault that there is not another 10 to 15 young players on the list to push him out.

Macca is a bit in a Shane Parker situation. Shane was also wonderful servant, did his job quietly week in week out without much credit given to him. Sadly, time passed him by and towards the end of his career he started costing us games. In his last 10 games he averaged half a dozen clangers a game and every game in that period the opposition scored at least one goal from his poor kick-ins. Sometimes we need to put emotions and sympathies aside. Macca will be remembered as possibly the most popular player ever to play for Freo but his time is up.

The problem is not Shaun McManus. He's hardly AFL standard. That's obvious.

The problem is the other 5-6 players that he's playing better than. We hammer McManus but not Mundy, Schammer, Peake, Johnson, Duffield et al who have been woeful.

I'd rate McManus better than Bell on the weekend. While I've deleted the Bulldogs game from the hard drive I'd also suggest Belly racked up a lot of posessions which were cheap or he turned over. Then this weekend he was woeful and completely pantsed by Stevens. (I suspect he's injured given the minutes he had.)

Eight years ago Shaun McManus, who had worn number 8 for 230 odd games, retired after going on a number of seasons far too long. That year we drafted a player in the second round who was given number 8. In spite of nothing better than mediocre his whole career, he keeps getting picked, and is well on his way to 150+ games.

My question to you, Bigfooty:

Who is more likely to survive a nuclear holocaust, Shaun McManus or Nick Suban?

Shaun has been "immortalised" in a mate's childrens' book called Aussie Santa, so I guess he wins :thumbsu:
