Still underrated

Jamie Cripps

Draft: Pick No.24, 2010 Draft
Games: 235
Career Brownlow votes: 12
Highest B&F finish: Fourth (2018)

How can a 31-year-old who is in his 14th AFL season and has played 235 games be underrated? Somehow, he is, certainly by those outside of WA. The tireless half-forward has set the standard for his teammates on and off the field over a number of years, and has booted 294 goals as a more-than-handy foil to the big guys in attack. A premiership player in 2018, Cripps is now also working as a mentor to the younger forwards in the group. He kicked a match-winning five goals in West Coast's upset win over the Western Bulldogs late last season, earning him three of his 12 career Brownlow votes. - Brandon Cohen

Some jumper enthusiasts may also be unhappy to hear Pyke say he hated the yellow jumper/yellow shorts combo so don't expect that to return any time soon

Should keep the yellow combo for certain games.

Watching the Indiana pacers home game and the whole crowd dressed in yellow looked great. Preferred it to the red army at RAC arena

An insightful interview with Pyke and I don't mind Schoey and his laconic casual approach...the training levels subject was interesting and stating that our fitness levels (related to our game style) were clearly below the current league standard, then how they've addressed that and continue to do so..

I was just watching the Back Chat podcast where he Jonathan Brown on it - Schoey said he doesn't support West Coast any more. Says he supports GWS now. Interesting to say that on social media when the club still pays him to do some forms of media for them.

It's a bit lame.
He was obviously bitter about how it ended, but not everyone get's to go out on their terms.

Makes no sense for Schoey to be supporting GWS really, but to each their own. I’m not a big fan of his media style either. Happy to give his podcasts a miss.

His rationale is

He was a die hard Geelong fan pre-draft
Went to West Coast
Played for Peel also so has soft spot for the Dockers

Rather than support any of them post career thought he would go with a fresh team in GWS

I like Schoey in the media but he seems like he'd be that mate that always wants to be different for the sake of it and is never really satisfied.

What does he mean by support GWS? Does he have a membership, scarf and travels to watch them? Most likely he only watches footy for work and probably doesn't really get into any team.

So you might say the club is a Schoey supporter?

Likes Jack Buckley (mate of Hammers), likes the GWS song, liked the run GWS went on last year, is mates with Dave Matthews (GWS CEO) and they have kinda jumped off the Flagmantle train after they nosed over in 2023, and also that the AFL told him he cannot produce or sell Flagmantle merch after ordering a heap of it in 2023 right before Freo couldn't back up their 2022 season.

He could produce "FLOGmantle" stuff. That would never become outdated.

LIGHTNING STRIKES

West Coast remained steadfast in the plan to train on Tuesday morning despite multiple lightning strikes around Mineral Resources Park.
The 11am session appeared in jeopardy when lighting struck just six minutes before training was due to start, but the players appeared on time and then continued to train when more lightning occurred at 11.09, 11.29 and 11.40.

Coaches engaged in conversations over their walkie talkies as the thunder rumbled around Lathlain, but they remained on the field.

The Eagles don’t have many chances to get themselves ready to face Essendon on Saturday night. They flew back to Perth on Sunday evening after losing to Gold Coast and have only six days between games. Essendon have a significantly larger break after drawing with Collingwood on Thursday. The Bombers will train at Optus Stadium on Friday.

REID’S RETURN

Harley Reid was back at training after his weekend off. Reid was rested for the game against the Suns and flew home to see family and friends in Tongala. The hardy fans who attended training joked that he brought Victoria’a weather back with him as the rain tumbled down throughout the session.

Wearing a long sleeved top under his guernsey for added warmth, Reid appeared energetic and enthusiastic as he prepares to play against Essendon. Reid played a VFL game for the Bombers last season. His intensity and ball winning ability in the centre of the ground will be important for West Coast after they were mauled by the Suns.

Tom Barrass and Noah Long both trained. Barrass is available after serving a one-game suspension and Long missed the game with a hip injury.

JUMPING FLYNN

West Coast have missed ruckman Matt Flynn since he injured his knee in the pre-season and while he is still several weeks away from playing, he’s showing good signs.

The big man spent time in the centre circle working on his taps and was able to leap before hitting the ball to former captain Luke Shuey. West Coast will be looking forward to Flynn being available to take on the bigger ruckmen throughout the league.

Gold Coast ruckman Jarrod Witts was best on ground on Sunday after a dominant display at Carrara.
