Alistair Nicholson's time has run out.

On many an occassion he has frustrated us supporters with abysmal displays to say the least but we have given him another chance.

Today he proved how much of a liability he is to the club.

IMO we need to cut our losses and get rid of this uncoordinated statue along with the Crazy Dutch Bastard who is also somewhat a statue.

Ward and Walsh give their heart and soul to the club. I wouldn't delist either but I'd certainly have them up for trade.

During the upcoming trade period Melbourne needs to heavily target someone who can play fullback for us such as Jon Hay, Haddrill, Livingston (nothing special but a better option than Nicho), Brian Harris or Trent Hentschell just to name a few or even give Ferguson some added responsibility and give him a key defensive post along with Rivers.

Rivers and Ferguson could rotate from CHB and FB.

Melbourne also desperately need more crumbers. Davey is excellent but has no support. David Rodan or Mark Williams please come on down.

Thoughts?

I'd love another Top 5 pick.

Maybe we could offload Jolly and pick 13 for one. A bit of a longshot, but the Hawks did trade pick 6 for Jacobs!

Yes i do think Melb need another tall defender and a Small forward. I thought Nicholson had an all right year so there is no use getting rid of him until we get someone else.

Trent Hentschell

Thoughts?
Absolutely NO chance of getting him. He is certainly one of out top youngsters and he would be wasted at FB because his skills are as silky as they get. I think you will find we are developing him as a forward. As an 18 year olf he played CHF for the NT seniors in a premiership side and kicked 78 goals in a season including 9 in the grand final.

He will most likely be our CHF next year and of all the youngsters on our list he would be untouchable. A class act at either end of the ground.

I know for certain that the Crows are going after Scott Thompson. IF he agreed to come to us, what do you think your club would want for him?

Cheers

No chance of getting Thompson if we have no chance of getting Hentschell.

Pick 8, but of course, you won't want to cough that pick up.

I'm pretty sure Scotty hates the Crows anyway, so I don't think we need to worry there.

We need to re-sign Bell and Rivers fast.

Saw Rivers on the Sunday Footy Show after winning Rising Star award and he mentioned that he wanted to further improve with Davey at the club.

I think the Rev has finally got the culture right at Deeland - so anyone thinking of jumping ship for personal gain would be a plonker.

True too.

Our most advanced prospect for an inside fielder when we are crying out for them, did you just think we would let him go?
No I didn't and I would think you would want a fair bit for him. Thats the reason I asked the question as to what you think he will cost? I didn't want to turn this into another well if we can't have player X you can't have player Y thread.

I wanted a genuine trade value for him not a kindergarder reply:rolleyes:

We need:
Key position defenders
Inside midfielders

Making him the kind we'd be looking at.

Hows Jamar going, can he take a strong contested mark? Is he more suited to ruck or forward? Would he be traded, what would you want for him etc, etc.

Jamar is probably our 2nd ruckman atm, and considering we only have 3 on the list then we would only let him go for something way above his market value. Young ruckman are rare too so it would have to hurt a club alot to get him.

I think we just need to develop our list a bit more, i don't think there is any need to do anything drastic at the trade table. maybe just a couple of small ones, to improve our draft position.
We should look at trading one of Jolly and Jamar, Lamb, Ward, Armstrong (sadly).

I think in our search for a key defender and forward, we've got to remember we have Ferguson, Molan and Smith waiting to come. With a solid pre season under their belts Ferguson and Smith should come into the team. Same goes for Sylvia and Mclean.

Williams and Carroll should be delisted. Rigoni should retire gracefully. Lamb should be traded, or kept until his contract expires (whenever that may be).

We need a full back, so potential trade bait could be Armstrong and one of Jolly or Jamar. These two ruckmen would get a good value deal, so if the right trade is there, then we should consider doing it. We don't have to get rid of them at this stage, but as with any player, if the deal is good enough then it will be done.

hey all, this is my first post so thought id throw in my two cents.
firstly dont think id trade jolly or jamar, as its always good to have a backup incase one gets injured and is also good if one happens to fall into a form slump.
i think i would trade godfrey before i traded ward as wardy has the advantage of being able to play down back, on the wing or up forward. is also a good tackler and chases the opposition, something melbourne lacked during the last part of the season.
nicko's season wasnt to bad, so keep him. first part of the season was particularly good, eg. keeping richo to a duck egg and tredrea to just 1 or 2.

should look to trade williams off for anything or just delist him, he is a lazy player, to slow to make decisions and takes to long to dispose of the ball. an ok player but not cut out for league footy.
can trade godfrey, is a good hard player but lacks a bit in the skills category and has been too inconsistent this season.
armstrong, as much as i would like to keep him, we have a few options for a small forward and cant see him getting in the team any time soon, should try to get something reasonable while we still can.
and maybe chris lamb. as much as i enjoy watching him in the red and blue, he seems to be out of favour hith daniher and with plenty of players like him, might be an option worth looking at.

what do you think?

what do you think?

I would like to keep Jolly and Jamar, but only one of them is going to take over the mantle from Jeff White. These two big, young ruckmen would have trade value and if we were in a situation where we could pick up a good full back or another classy player, then we should consider it. We should be looking for a ruckman in the draft anyway, as you should have at least 4 ruckmen on your list at any one stage.

I think we would get more out of Godfrey than other clubs, because they don't rate him and wouldn't give us much for him. So I'd rather keep him, he adds depth to the midfield.

We should keep Ward, he's another who I don't think we would get a good deal for. So we should keep him. Ward is a good player when fit. He is quick and tough, always good qualities to have.

We would get a decent deal for Armstrong, especially from the WA clubs I reckon. So he is possible trade bait. Unfortunately, he hasn't progressed since the Bali bombings.

Lamb won't stay past his current contract I don't think. Some club might go for him cheap now, or just wait to get him for free as a back-up.

There should be a resistance against cleaning out our experienced players, look at what happened to Collingwood. We need to turn over players gradually. Carroll, Williams and Rigoni, plus maybe Walsh and Lamb should go with one or two trades as well. We've got a lot of good youngsters, but they need seasoned bodies to help them.

Add Simon Godfrey to that list of players that should be traded or delisted...he can tag...but his disposal is pathetic!!!

First thing to remember is that in order to pick up quality, quality or at least potential must be offered. For this reason offloading Williams (please!), Ward, Walsh or Godfrey will require at reasonable draft pick as well to get a solid player. Love Walshy though so should keep him. Also in favour of Wardy.
The likes of Arma or the two young rucks may bring something because they offer potential but would probably also require a 2nd round draft pick for someone pretty good.
I don't know if anyone else would really rate Lamby given that he couldn't get a game last year ahead of 1st year rookies. Nice to try and trade him for his sake.
Carrol won't cut it at AFL level and should go and much as I like Rigger, probably time to move on (though he was good last week).

Priorities are certainly Key tall defender and another Thommo. Thats what I reckon anyway.

Catch ya.

Klynt
