They say a Rolling Stone gathers no moss. And this saying could not be more true when you look at the Melbourne Moss Football Club.

They last won a premiership in the year 1964 - the very same year The Rolling Stones released their first album. Since then The Rolling Stones have managed to put out an amazing 65 releases. The Moss has managed to make a whole 2 grand finals in that time.

And what performances they were. A 96 point spanking at the hands of Hawthorn and a 10 goal hiding by the Bombers.

Fed up, The Moss's supporter numbers have dwindled. Mick Jagger has fathered more children than The Moss has members.

So the question must be asked... why bother? This question was answered in 2005. The Moss were again teasing their very few supporters as they sat 2nd on the ladder. 1st vs 2nd at the Home of Football in round 13. That day the top of the ladder West Coast Eagles put The Moss in its place. Unfortunately The Moss never recovered from that devastating loss. They quickly fell from 2nd to 7th. Scraping into the finals The Moss then got reamed by Geelong by 9 goals.

But The Moss somehow managed to slip into 7th spot again the next year. In a final insult to the football world they gave Fremantle their only ever win in a finals match. Words can not describe how truely pathetic The Moss has become.

Maybe pictures can.

Dwindled eh? Is that what you call it when a club smashes its membership record twice in 2 years :D

I'll grant you this was a more creative effort, especially by WCE standards, but still a loooong way off target!

I wonder what W.C calls it when WCE get beaten- a "glorious victory" perhaps? ;)

Mate I hate to break it to you, but noone over here care about the West Australian Amphetamine Manufacturing Concern FC, especially since Benny and Judd flew the coop. Only reason you have supporters is because you live, way out there, and noone knows any different, or better.

I too wouldve like to have won flags with a recruiting region larger than Europe, but it wouldve felt a bit hollow, also the fact that it is a franchise.

More people care about WCE than the Demons - though if you were up at Mt. Buller it may be the reverse.

Marvelous originality there Spluff... don't make me get out the big number 9 again :p

Melbourne Moss?? haha, i like it. And when you go to the trouble of pointing out historical truths to rag on their pathetic excuse for a club the credibility of this thread is exemplified. Keep rollin' Melbourne Moss.

Oviously more people care. But then "Dubya" was more poular than Kerry, and Howard than Beazley.

Obviously no sane person would support Richmond, but they always rock up for punishment. Unfortunately sanity is measured only by success. And West Coast have had that, still a soulless franchise though.

WCF - I've got no problem with talented people trolling the Melbourne football club, but when the dribble-o-meter goes off, it is time to act.

Let's start with your premise: a rolling stone gathers no moss. You claim that some how this saying should be linked to the Demons.

This is the etymology and meaning of the phrase in Wikipedia:

A rolling stone gathers no moss is an old proverb, credited to Publilius Syrus, who in his Sententiae states, People always moving, with no roots in one place, avoid responsibilities and cares. Though the original meaning of the proverb was that people who are always travelling have no roots in a particular place, the proverb nowadays refers to people who keep moving to avoid picking up responsibilities and cares.

Now it takes some highly lateral thinking - and I use this word loosely - to connect this saying with our record post-1964.

Really, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. WCF, do us all a favour and write this down on the back of your hand.

Can I make a suggestion? Why not start a thread: things that are more recent than the Demons' last premiership. It - and its variants - have been done to death a millions times over here on the Bay. It's safe and insipid.

Even so, every dog will have its day and that includes low-grade howlers such as yourself.

Incredible rebuttal here folks.

And a quality post there from you too KFleong - still, at least it's better than last night's effort, where you tried to "predict" what I was going to say after I'd already said it, and still got it WRONG :D

The saddest thing is that THIS is the most creative WCE troll thread I've seen in weeks Biff- just imagine what the other ones have been like ;)

when's Melbourne's day going to come? As in, winning a flag?

We will win a flag a lot long before you part company with Mrs Palmer and her five daughters and stop wearing the Big V jumper.

And yep, Howler, V does not stand for Victoria.

Wasn't talking to you mate.

Or is illiteracy part of the Moss ethos as well?

Wasn't talking to you

KF, I'm aware you weren't directing your previous post at me, but I chose to direct my last post at you anyway boyo... ;)

wablues have stayed loyal thankyou very much

I cant beleive the amount of Melgorne posters currently on Bigfooty when their team of 'superstars' are currently playing. Sad state of affairs when your own supporters dont even want to watch you play.

No that im sticking up for him but, i do believe he was using the term as a parable, defined thus:-

–noun; a statement or comment that conveys a meaning indirectly by the use of comparison, analogy, or the like.

With the comparison being, in short; like a rock on the ground, you aint going nowhere!! Which means that even slow growing moss will catch up to you.

Hope this helps to clear up any confusion.:)
