Fairly good point Mentor, will be both interesting and exciting to see how it plays out.

Like i said in a previous thread. i hope Martin uses this a inspiration and has a MASSIVE preseason. He is at the right age, size and experience level to really announce himself like so many big men have done before him.

I would think martin would spend some more time in defence next year, at 198cm he provides a bit of extra hight along side Frawley 193, Rivers 193 and Garland 191. With him being back would allow Watts to stay forward.

Our forward line is going to have some awesome marking power, Watts, Clark, Jurrah and Howe, good luck trying to stop all of them, then throw in Green and Petterd.

I think we just need our midfield to improve which i think will be the case with a big pre-season and we will be back playing finals.

Yep exactly and Martin started as a defender. Might give Garland the freedom of becoming a running defender.

And Jurrah, Watts, Howe, Green won't get the best forward. It gets better.

If it's true that we're going after Caddy, then our midfield can be improved a bit with his possible addition.

I envisage Martin still playing back-up to Jamar in the ruck, but given his versatility he could pinch hit anywhere really. He could even spend a bit of time on the wing, ala Richo 2008.

Jamar
60% ruck
25% bench
15% forward

Martin
40% ruck
30% bench
30% floating (depends on match ups)

It will be important that both of them still spend a bit of time in the goalsquare, particularly when Clark pushes to CHF to give Watts a breather at FF. Having one of our big ruckmen down there will help out Watts.

For the record, I agree with Puppet's 22, although I'd change a couple of positions, and Bail as an emerg (in the team with Strauss injured)

I think Bail's spot has really been jeopardized by his injury, especially since Jones has had such a stellar season (with Strauss, Blease and Tapscott showing a lot of promise as well)...

Just my gut feeling.

I see him having more chance playing in 2012 than Strauss tbh

I like them both, but Strauss has been hurt in multiple ways by his injury

They play very different roles, Bail doesn't have the disposal or defensive skills to be a rebounding defender.

Strauss does.

Strauss has defensive and disposal skills??

Havnt seen him actually "defend", just because he plays in defence it doesnt mean he is good at restricting opponents.

And i've got to say i've seen some shocking clangers from him coming out of defence/

I think you haven't watched him that closely then.

I reveiwed him this year and I'm telling you for a fact that he at least broke even with his man in every game he played.

He has shown excellent disposal as well; you'll have to excuse the odd clanger from a player who's played 11 games.

I think Bail is close to our best tagger tbh

Has the tank to run with anybody, and gets a good amount of ball on the other side.

I like him, but agree they play different roles. Strauss has to get fit, play well at Casey and wait for an opportunity. Opportunity is easier to find with a pre-season and Nab ect

I want him to make it, the sad thing is he was really just starting to find his spot in the team before the injury. 6-8 game streak in the firsts.... the thing in his favour is his kicking 82% efficiency!!!

Only bettered by.... drum roll everyone

Jared Rivers

*stats from MFC web page
*also lists Jordie at 4th on 80% haha go figure all those handpasses i guess

Strauss will be able to complete over 50% of the pre-season and probably play in the NAB Cup.

Sauce you say?

James Strauss.

Sounds like the best recovery i have heard of from a double break, great news, still isnt a walk up start at this stage, all the best to James however MFC is better having him playing, because it means he has earned it

edit i prefer mushroom but James Strauss will do today
