Re: MFC ficture 2011

Good
First 3 at the G and possible to win with Sydney, Hawthorn and Brisbane
3 Friday nights and 1 Thursday night
Well spaced byes at round 5 and round 16
Only 3 away interstate trips - to GC (at Gabba), West Coast, Port and our usual game at Geelong
Carlton, Hawthorn, Port, Richmond, WC, GC twice. No one higher than 7th last year on that list (which probably means they will all be good this year).
Rounds 10,11,12 - Carlton, Essendon, Collingwood at the G.

Average
St Kilda, WB, North at Etihad
Only play Collingwood once (which can be a good thing)
Having the bye before game in Darwin, not after it.

Bad

Home game at Etihad v West Coast

Re: MFC ficture 2011

is that 14 free to air games, compared to was it 9 last season? massive improvement, lots more exposure for the club.

Re: MFC ficture 2011

Why are most of our home games against Interstate Clubs and only 2 against Victorian teams?? Surely playing Victorian teams as our home games would help us out more financially, instead of getting 20K to a home game against an Interstate team.

Re: MFC ficture 2011

I was a bit worried initially when I saw that our first four matches were all on Sunday, and one of them was in a twilight time slot.

From there, though, it improved dramatically. Very happy with our draw, and it seems as if the AFL realises that we're an exciting team on its way up.

On a side note, what's a ficture?

:D

Re: MFC ficture 2011

Pros:

1. Pretty easy fixture. Only one trip to Perth.
2. No trip to Adelaide.

Cons:
1. We do not have one home game at the MCG on a Saturday.
2. We play a HOME game against the EAGLES at ETIHAD on a SUNDAY at 1:10PM. FFS! Why Hawthorn has a home game on Saturday against Port, and we're delegated to Etihad on a Sunday against the Eagles is beyond me.
3. We have 5 home games against interstate clubs on a Sunday, 3 of which start at 1:10pm
4. We have four Etihad matches.

What, you dont know?

As draft camp is now combine,
fixture has been changed to ficture.

Go read a newspaper or something

...I was to excited playing back to back fridays...

Also we do play port at AAMI in the floating rd 24 Calboy.

Re: MFC ficture 2011

Pretty good.
Except for Rounds 4 - 9 where we only play once at the MCG:mad:

Re: MFC ficture 2011

Overall I think it's good from a "win more games" and "games that I can attend" perspective. However, I think we will have more games with low crowds this year due to the point (made by Syrus and calebreseboy) that we have a lot of home games vs interstate teams...

Abd only one Saturday home game at the G is very pooh.

We play Port at AAMI in the last round. I'm pretty happy with the fixture, I wish we were playing the pies twice though, I happy we play Carlton twice :)

anyone find it weird looking through the fixture and seeing Melbourne under Friday Night ?

Gold Coast twice should be 2 wins ?

Looks like a good draw, but I also agree the home game at @ Jihad is rubbish :thumbsd:.

It seems like we have been rewarded with a few Friday night games & a Thursday based on the fact that neutral/nonMFC supporters like our game style & we seem to have a fair amount of good will from non Melbourne supporters because they like the way we play.

Along with that I think the AFL see 2011 as our year to really emerge from the dark days of 2007-2009 & start building towards becoming a premiership contender. From my perspective anyway, I look at our fixture as a reward from the AFL for bringing an exiting brand of football that helps market the game.

I'm very happy with the amount of free to air games too.

Let's not complain too much about home games against interstate teams at the G. We finished 12th last year so did not deserve a whole lot of love from the AFL.

On the other hand, when we have won 8 out of first 10 games, people will be flocking through the gates to watch us play our exciting brand of football no matter who we are playing.

Why do we play Port twice in the space of 7 weeks?? Couldn't we have played those easy beats Norf or the Bombers at least twice??

I'm genuinely happy with the way the draw has worked out though.

I don't think I was alive the last time we beat them easy beats Norf :o

Looks like we have scored a very good draw.
The break down is as follows:

MCG: 13 (9 Home games)
Etihad: 4 (1 Home game)
TIO (Darwin): 1 (1 Home game)
Gabba: 1 (Away GC)
Subiaco: 1 (Away WCE)
Skilled: 1 (Away Geelong)
AAMI: 1 (Away Port)

Thursday Night: 1 (Away WCE)
Friday Nights: 3 (1 Home game vs Carl)
Saturday Day: 5
Saturday Night: 1 (Home game vs Port in Darwin)
Sunday Early: 3
Sunday Day: 5
Sunday Twilight: 2 (1 Home vs Rich)
Monday Day: 1 (QB Home game vs Coll)

Broadcasters:
Seven: 8 games
Ten: 6 games
Fox: 7 games
Unknown: 1 game (Round 24)

Days Break
(Not including 1st round or rounds 6 & 17 after bye/ Also R. 24 - not known due to floating fixture)
6 Day: 6 games
7 Day: 8 games
8 Day: 2 games
10 Day: 2 games

Positives
* Only play two of 2010 finalists twice - Carlton & Hawthorn
* 3 interstate games - GC, Port & WCE (doesn't include sold home game against Port in Darwin)
* 5 prime time night games.

Slight Negatives:
*R.13 vs Fremantle at MCG. Coming off 6 Day break after playing Collingwood on the previous Monday (Queens Birthday) should have received bye for this round
*R.15 vs WB at MCG on Friday night. Great being a prime time Friday night game but not ideal coming off 3 consecutive 6 day breaks.
*R.21 vs WCE at Etihad. Should never play any home games at Etihad
*R.24 vs Port at AAMI. Last round of season interstate is never a good thing.

Good post Punchy

The only other Negative I have is not having a bye after playing in TIO.

I don't think a team has ever one the week after playing there. Port have the bye.

Re: MFC ficture 2011

We play Port at AAMI in the last round. I'm pretty happy with the fixture, I wish we were playing the pies twice though, I happy we play Carlton twice :)

Ahh, since Judd moved to Carlton, we haven't gotten close to beating them. Not sure playing them twice is a good thing?

Very very happy with that draw from a football point of view. A quick glance and i can see 11 wins next year! Don't play any team from the top 6 last year twice! 3 interstate away games! Is that correct??? Schwab & co. must have done some serious sucking up! And as much as i love us playing Collingwood twice, i feel right now, playing them once is not a bad thing.

The only thing I don't like is 4 games at Etihad! That joint is as bad as AAMI for us! Haven't looked like winning there since Jesus was a boy! And from a $$$ perspective, i think there is potential for less crowds than last year with more games at home against interstate sides. But surely no one from here can complain about that draw! We possibly have the best draw(besides Collingwood) in the comp for 2011.

Liking the draw, first 7 games we only play 2 top 8 sides & they're in the first 2 rounds & far from un-winnable games against Swans here & Hawks. We travel twice in this period but it's either side of our bye so works well. Set up well for a good start to the year.

Our hardest 3 games in a row based on last year's form & expected improvement seems to be Hawks, Cats & Blues Rd 18-20, which doesn't seem that bad. Noting like this year where we had Cats, Blues, Pies, Crows away & Saints.

Good finish to the year if we're in that 6-10th position with 3 winnable Melbourne games, just hope we aren't relying on winning in Adelaide to make the finals

I don't think a team has ever one the week after playing there. Port have the bye.
You'd think it would be logical and easy to give both teams the bye the following week as one of the 7 game rounds. The only thing I can think of is perhaps the club wanted to get up to Darwin earlier than usual and do some promo work without it all being crammed over a couple of days so perhaps requested a bye before hand.

At least our Darwin game is in July rather than May so should be a lot cooler.

Best fixture we've had in a long time... be happy with what we get.. stop complaining..

Good point. We can make a 'China' like trip of it. I liked our 1st game up there. Looking forward to another with all those local Melbourne fans.
