Would be more than happy if he got another game alongside Pav. Would be an interesting question to answer... If Pav went down before the finals would RTB replace him with Apeness or put another midfielder into the team so we can rotate the mids through the forward line more.
Not sure we want to risk Pav in the same team. He might get in his way.

Would be a waste of a game playing him alongside Pav. Pav still attracts a lot of the inside 50 entries so couldn't see Nessie getting much of a look in. No way we would see both out there in a game for 4 points.

I think for Apeness's development we should have him out there with Pav. Even if the plan is to sub him off at 1/2 time. If we want him to be Pav's replacement when Pav eventually retires (he's never retiring... NEVER), or *touch wood* Pav gets injured, then he'll learn a lot more from the big man in AFL match conditions, than in training simulations, or our joke of a WAFL team.

‘Beast’ Apeness likely to face GWS

“I thought he was really good,” Lyon said.

“It was tough conditions in Darwin, but he competed really strongly. He’s an exciting young talent.”

“As long as they don’t get out-marked (and) as long as the ball is brought to ground, you’re pretty happy as a coach,” he said.
“Last week he was outnumbered and he brought it to ground, and that brings (Hayden) Ballantyne and those guys into the game. He’s a bit of a beast and we’re looking for that in our front half. He has an opportunity again this week, I would think.”
“It’s hard for young talls, I remember Drew Petrie in his first year, I think, averaged four touches,” Lyon said.
“Ben Reid at Collingwood played two games in his first three years and, in his fourth year, he blossomed and played in a premiership.

“It’s never been tougher in the AFL, being a power forward, particularly young ones.”

I think Lyon has learnt from his saints days that he has to grow new players where potential future gap so nows the chance. will be intresting to see how Apeness goes this time not frawley on him.
I think it's a common misconception that he didn't just blindly blood the youth over at the Saints. The kids have to show something first, and, as reflected in their subsequent years - the kids they had at the time RTB was there weren't up to scratch. It's not his fault his recruitment & development teams were not up to task with recruiting and developing adequate talent to push for senior selection. There are only 2-3 exceptions to the rule, still there today and performing as testament to this.

Exactly. Well put Nickos66.

Boo-yeah. So much for Lyon not willing to play the youth.

To put in context, from last year's draft he'll have played as many games as number 1 pick Tom Boyd...

His partner up forward for Vic too.

I want to see what Apeness is capable of as second tall, too often we have debuted a new key forward and told them: "you're on your own!"
