In terms of midfielders inside the centre square I'd say as follows:

1. Sloane
2. Thompson
3. Barlow
4. M Crouch or B Crouch
6. Douglas
7. CEY

Not in frame - Atkins, Knight, Mackay, Cameron

The high half forward/pseudo mid role that Lyons played last year could perhaps go to Barlow which would at least keep both Crouches in our four centre square midfielders rotation

It would effectively end Milera's short term career options with us though

Keeping Thompson on surely rules out any need to recruit a player like Barlow.

Reckon Barlow will happen. Would be happy about it. Haven't watched much of him this year, but I feel the reason he hasn't been played is due to Freo's glut of mids.

He'd be an upgrade on Thommo, without doubt.

Anyone that can run on two legs is an upgrade.

We can't possibly play Thommo and Barlow in the same side. The club if it ia thinking without emotion has a clear decision they need to make.

If he was say a couple of years younger would you be thinking the same way? This year in our losses it was our midfielders inability to get their hands on the ball that killed us, not their lack of kicking skills or speed. Someone like Barlow in the guts means we're far more likely to win the ball then we otherwise would be.

I suppose it B.Crouch and M.Crouch step it up then maybe they fill the gap a little but we've basically lost two inside midfielder bulls in Dangerfield and Thompson (from his peak to what he is now) in the past couple of years.


At the end of the day it should come down to what we want to achieve in the next couple of seasons. If we think we're a chance then go for him, if not, then we should pass on him, a lower finish helps us with a higher pick and a better fixture going forward. I'd like to think we're in contention in the next couple of years but our lack of off-season movement suggests we think otherwise.
