Douglas will play 22 matches. Mackay gets 20+. Thommo at least 15
This is the reality. Makes you have morning sickness even when you're not expecting.

Imo, Mackay 0-5 games, Thommo 5-10 games, Douglas 15-20 games... though if Douglas plays like 2016, could easily halve.

Ideally, 1 of these 3 plays most games, as we need some experience.

Does anyone else think that Barlow will go anywhere but Adelaide?

Or is it just me?
You mean locality or team?

His priority would be for a team pushing for premiership contention & reckon he would only go to a Queensland team if no other options. Doubt he will remain in wa.

We played Van Berlo for three matches this season despite how obvious to everyone that he was cooked. I have no faith that our coaching staff will recognize when senior players should part way

In his position if he wants to play AFL which he has stated he does he goes to the best offer for absolute certain whether that be money or tenure.

At least they pulled the plug on vb - imo, they will do the same for mackay.

Thommo has already had an honest discussion with afc about his new role.

Douglas would want to perform or menzel, milera, knight, etc will wizz by.

Mackay has two years left on his contract. Very unlikely he will be phased out

I don't think he'd be struggling for offers. He's not fashionable and not what was hoped for, but he is a decent player who was in good form when injured last year.

He will play somewhere no doubt

Some wishful thinking there!

In terms of midfielders inside the centre square I'd say as follows:

1. Sloane
2. Thompson
3. Barlow
4. M Crouch or B Crouch
6. Douglas
7. CEY

Not in frame - Atkins, Knight, Mackay, Cameron

The high half forward/pseudo mid role that Lyons played last year could perhaps go to Barlow which would at least keep both Crouches in our four centre square midfielders rotation

It would effectively end Milera's short term career options with us though

Keeping Thompson on surely rules out any need to recruit a player like Barlow.

Keeping Thommo on rules out a lot of things.

I hope with the extra space we have this year that we pay DMac 2 years worth this year. Will make cutting him next year an easier decision.

Dreaming. Simply will not happen. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if he was retained after his current contract is up

Fremantle great Paul Hasleby says delisted Docker Michael Barlow still has plenty to offer at AFL level

FREMANTLE great Paul Hasleby believes Dockers discard Michael Barlow still has plenty to offer at AFL level.

Hasleby backed the 28-year-old, who played 126 games in seven seasons at Fremantle, to have an impact if picked up as a delisted free agent or in the draft.

He felt Adelaide or the rebuilding North Melbourne would be Barlow’s best fit, especially in the midfield role where he made a name for himself.

“Over the last three or four years, he’s just been pushed out by (Dockers coach) Ross Lyon to the forward flank,” Hasleby told SEN.

“Obviously he made his crust as a midfielder and he is a very dominant midfielder when he gets that opportunity.

“He showed that this year for four or five games when Fremantle had some injuries, they put him in the guts and he averaged about 28 possessions and four tackles through that period.

“I think over his career, he’s averaged 25 possessions so any club that picks him up, if they play him as that midfielder they know they’re going to get a player that finds the ball.

“He doesn’t use it the best by foot, but he’s a smart player and he knows that he needs to bring teammates into play.

“I think he offers a lot, he’s a great endurance athlete.

“He hasn’t played a hell of a lot of footy because he’s had some horrific injuries, but in terms of character and fitting into a football club, there’s none better.”

Barlow is hopeful of playing on at another AFL club next season, with his manager Marty Park receiving “strong interest” ahead of the delisted free agency period on November 1.

“Marty Pask, my manager, has had some really constructive approaches over the past little period. There’s some good strong interest, which is really pleasing,” Barlow told 6PR.

An honest Barlow knew the “writing was on the wall” after his season-ending collarbone injury against Geelong in Round 17, with no one-year deal ever put on the table for 2017.

“If Brad Lloyd, our list manager, doesn’t contact your manager after some of the performances I put in … I think the writing was on the wall for me,” he said.

“I’ve been prepared for this for quite some time. I’m really respectful of the decision but I didn’t walk into my meeting (on Monday) with any hope of a contract offer.”

Geez can we just have him for Showdowns? Last game v Port

43 poss (20 contested)
9 tackles
8 clearances
4 R50's
3 I50's
2 goals
Cripes, when he played us he had

33 poss (15 contested - 2nd most behind Neale)
8 tackles (equal most of any player)
8 clearances (most of any player)
3 R50s
7 I50s (equal most of any player)
1 Goal assist

Thommo by contrast that day:
30 poss (8 contested)
3 tackles
5 clearances
0 R50
3 I50
0 goals/goal assists

Let's end the suggestion the guy is no good. If he is fit, he is a good 1,2 year addition.

He'll end up at Demons or Bombers.

If we did happen to grab Barlow, my worst nightmare would be seeing him, Thommo, Douglas and Mackay all selected ahead of Knight, Wigg, Milera and Hampton.

I could deal with Barlow if it meant replacing the above mentioned.
That's the key, the club has a choice to make, grab Barlow and they can't play Thommo.

Next year is going to be a watershed year in our history I reckon and will tell us so much about our club and whether we live up to Elite Standards.

Another year of Thommo, Mackay and Douglas with Barlow instead of Menzel, Hampton, Knight, Milera and Wigg and we are going nowhere.

And 50k will still rock up every week to "cheer the boys on" cause "they gave it their best".

I'm not trying to be too harsh, but I've got a feeling that sitting between 4th and 12th all the time breeds mediocrity and content, amongst the supporters and the club.
