Because we've retained Thompson and are supposedly interested in Barlow.

Both moves seem at odds with the development route.

Yeah, I dunno. If anything, the retention of Thommo is a nod towards us taking the development route, by keeping him in a mentor type capacity, as well as a backup if / as needed. Seems like a logical and sensible thing to do.

The caveat to that of course is that Thommo plays most of the time in the ressies, with a younger player playing taking his place in the starting 22. If it happens in reverse and Thommo plays most games and keeps a young up and comer out of the side, then yeah, it's very much at odds.

Not sure what to make of Barlow, but it's all hearsay at the moment, so we can't draw conclusions either way can we?

Yep - Thompson + Barlow means no spot for Milera and Menzel. Unless they turf Atkins, Cameron or McGovern which sort of defeats the purpose.

*If* Thompson and Barlow play SANFL (they won't but anyway) then that's better but still a terrible result as our SANFL midfield is full of older players we aren't planning on using.

I guess we are all hoping for a big change to the list from within that just won't happen. Very rare for 4 guys in the best 22 to suddenly be pushed out by new players from the existing squad. If things went that way:

• Barlow for me is an upgrade on Douglas.
• Thommo and Lyons out of our midfield leaves space for change.
• Mackay potentially leaves another spot up for grabs. Surely Milera spells the end for Dmac?

Other players will get chances, but I'm hoping Pyke follows through this year and really sets us up for a proper tilt that doesn't rely on zero suspensions or injuries ... ie play more players throughout the year and build some AFL standard depth and experience in the younger end of the squad.

That's bad news for us if true, because I have heard rumours that his preference is go to home and play for a Vic club.

The less clubs interested the better it is for us.

I can't remember the club specifically stating we would target midfielders in the Trade period. Did they make the same specific statements for pick 13 in the draft, not sure could be wrong. They did say after the trade period they would take that pick to the draft like they had intended.
And lets say they did. Its like saying I want to buy a new car, and, not sure that is divulging anything significant.

So from this, am I to assume you are incapable of reading a whole sentence and understanding it, rather you prefer to pick out 2 words and claim that as an all encompassing statement I have made.

And now provide a link to the List managers comments after the Sydney loss and show me where Roo has specifically mentioned we would target midfielders during the trade and draft?

This is exactly what Roo said but of course in BigFooty speak it means we'll trade for a midfielder. Sometimes people hear what they want to hear not necessarily what was said and the context it was said in.

I remember listening to this when he said it on MMM and in no way was it definitive that we will trade for a midfielder. His comments were pretty clear that if we need to add another midfielder some way. Technically speaking if we sign Barlow and/or draft a midfielder we did exactly what Roo said we would try and do.
