That article is from Robert Walls, he says twenty things and usually gets 5 right, he will eventually get some stuff right, you've just got to guess with him which is accurate
Walls was also a Paris France resident at the time

Probably the most creative and damaging HB in the game.

In my humble opinion he is worth more to us where he is.
It's a conundrum... but wouldn't it be good to at least inject Smith in the midfield at key times like the hawks do with the likes of burgoyne?

Also, when Smith is having a quiet game on a hbf, why not utilise him in the midfield, including a wing?

Really would like us develop more flexibility.

No argument on how good he can be. AA half back, best in the league.

Has been nowhere near that for quite a while
Gee ... i thought in the main Smith was back to his AA form this year .....would love to see the comparisons of yardage gained and goals kicked, this year versus his AA year?

Yeah, however i cant envision he will still be undecided about where he is going
No i think he knows where he wants to go .......but, as we've seen with Tippett, those preferences can be influenced by $$$$$$

Must have missed him in the AA team...

Id do it if he was having a stinker, other than that, Cameron, Betts, Douglas, Memzel, Milera, Knights are players Id prefer to see roatating through the middle, plus the usual midfielders of course.

He has been good rather than great.

I really don't get that excited with his metres gained stat. The reality is that he almost always takes kick ins, kicks to himself, runs 15 metres and kicks 55 to the boundary contest.

Nice 70m net gain for him, but does not advantage the side much

Happy with that:thumbsu:

Doesn't come near a H Shaw for example
Certainly not on last year's form.

Laird was closer to AA last year than Smith by a margin.

That one against the bullies last couple of minutes wasn't half bad

Smith has great ability but he's one of the flakiest players in the side unfortunately.

if he was consistent he'd be one of our top 5 easily but there's a gulf between his best and worst games. I'm quite worried about his mounting concussions too to be honest.

if we were looking for someone to float around for something substantial in next years trade period he'd be top of my list. I said that months ago.

Lyons didn't show anything in 2016 that he hadn't shown before. He went into 2016 as a fringe player, and he finished 2016 the same way.
That's not true.

He was dropped mid season to make way for Brouch.. An error that was not repeated. This tells me the selectors got it wrong. Perhaps they also got it wrong with his departure.

But they would never admit this.

His best is great but he's stagnated on hb the last 2 years. If Brodie can turn himself into an A grade mid, and replace him with Seedsman/Hampton at hb, then would see a net improvement overall on the team.

He is underrated because of how good he can be - which is unbelievably good.

Had another ripper season.
I think part of the problem is the opposition knows how good/damaging he can be, especially for a side like us who wants to create quick ball movement. If he gets it across half back and the opposition tries to clog up the corridor he's a guy who has the ability to kick through/over all that completely and get it to our talls, especially on a smaller ground like Etihad or the SCG. We've seen it before where he can get it across half back and then hit up someone like Tom Lynch in the forward half with just 1 kick. It's why I can understand why they persisted with Seedsman when he was available because he has that same sort of potential with his rocket of a kick on him.

hitting Mitchell on the chest in the opening minutes of last years semi wasn't so hot, neither was when he was in a paddock and missed Seedsman by 10m in another paddock when we played the Hawks this year.

the latter one was really quite atrocious to be honest, considering the only pressure he was under was coming from his own mind to fluff that kick when we could have iced the game really tells me something about his ceiling.

people might say that's harsh but compare the way he impacts the really hard games with performances like Knight's game against the Dogs last year or Cameron against the Swans this year and its like night and day. Those two really will themselves into the contest and that is far more valuable than looking like a freak against the middle of the road teams.

Isn't it?! There isn't an area of the game that Lyons got better in this year as opposed to 2015. The only differences between his 2015 and 2016 form is the departure of Dangerfiled and no sub vest. Project Lyons' stats in 2015 to the same time on ground that he got in 2016 and you get almost identical production.

People are mistaking Lyons' lack of opportunities and competition from previous years for an improvement in 2016.
