To us children of the 70s, this is kind of sad - maybe because of the closing age proximity. :o

King Of Pop Michael Jackson Dies At 50
June 25th, 2009 - 5:51pm - US/Central

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― King of Pop Michael Jackson died Thursday at a Los Angeles hospital where he was rushed around 1 p.m. PT by paramedics. Jackson, 50, suffered cardiac arrest.

Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times earlier Thursday that paramedics responded to a call at Jackson's home around 12:26 p.m. Ruda said Jackson was not breathing when they arrived.

Law enforcement sources and city officials told the LA Times that Jackson was declared dead by doctors Thursday afternoon after arriving in a deep coma at the hospital.

Jackson had announced months ago that he would be doing a comeback tour, but his representatives announced in May that the the star would postpone several of his London shows scheduled for this summer.

Jackson, who has sold more than 750 million albums and won 13 Grammys, hasn't undertaken a a major tour since 1997 or released an album of new material since 2001.

The 50-year-old singer has been seen in public infrequently since he was acquitted of child molestation in California in 2005. He has struggled to pay his debts, and was forced last year to give up the deed to Neverland, his 2,500-acre ranch and miniature amusement park in California.

Re: Michael Jackson

You've changed the way we dance and sing,
and sometimes changed the way we swing

You've changed the disco for all to see,
but never changed the times i've seen

You've changed your colour, your skin and hair,
but never your mother, your kin and air

I'm sad inside with all of me,
but now i know you will be free

You'll rest in peace forever long,
as i'm so sad to see you gone

You've loved and lost and things will change,
as heaven waits to rock again

My condolences to the Jackson family and friends... RIP Michael Jackson - Dont Stop Til You Get Enough

Re: Michael Jackson

Anyone else think Farrah Fawcett's family would be slightly peeved at the timing?
Undoubtedly.
The HUN tomorrow will have a gigantic picture of Jacko on the front, 14 more pages about his life, and Farrah will be tucked into the bottom corner of page 23. Not what a hottie like this deserves.

EDIT: Only just realised it was Port board, laugh at me all you want.

Re: Michael Jackson

Yeah its 'bad luck' for Farrah I guess and she deserves the public recognition she should get.

But apart from Princess Di, id say MJ dying would be the next biggest death since ive been alive. Biggest selling album of all time, 13 number one singles, 3rd or 4th highest selling music artist in history, massive massive impact on the music industry, arguably the biggest pop artist of all time. He hasnt been at all relevant for over a decade now but I dont think anyone expected that this morning.

Post stuff like that and you're welcome to come in here whenever you want. :thumbsu:

Farah Fawcett went to heaven and St. Peters said "because you have been such a good woman, i will grant you one wish"

Farah said "I want all the children of the world to be safe"

"Done" said St. Peters.

Then, MJ died

Good to see I'm not the only one with no sympathy for MJ. I don't care how good a musician he was, he was a baby dangling nutjob last week and he's still a baby dangling nutjob now, he's just a baby dangling nutjob who died.

I hate how some say he was found not guilty. Remember, OJ simpson was found not guilty.

It's amazing what good lawyers and large somes of money can do for you.

So is everyone who is found not guilty, actually guilty if they actually have some money?

You'd need to hear all the facts and arguments from both sides before you could come to a conclusion either way. The whole OJ fuss is because the case was broadcast from go to woe i believe. So everybody bloody well knew what the facts were. Pretty sure MJ's case was different in that regard.

Not that i have an opinion on his innocence/guilt either way.

The first accusation never went to trial and there are many dubious queries over that case (like the fathers input). The second case that did go to trial....didnt it come out after that they had made the whole thing up?

My opinion is he was innocent. Theres no doubt his friendship with children was unhealthy and the sign of someone with deep psychological issues, but I dont believe he was a kid fiddler.

And yeah, just because OJ got off doesnt mean every other not guilty case is guilty.

I may be a bit older than you Macca, but for me it was John Winston Lennon. At least, like Di, he did not self destruct and was at a very productive time of his life.

Agree. And if I recall correctly, the boys mum was implicated in some previous dodgy accusations against the 'well to do'.

I never got to see him live, but I grew up in the 80s, thought he made some fantastic music. For the Gen Xers was like losing our version of Elvis. Unfortunately his own self destruction was the major factor that hurt his record sales. He was still releasing great music, the Bad album was a great follow up to Thriller, but the fact that his look had dramatically changed since Thriller already begin to cause ridicule for Jackson.

He could have easily been the biggest name ever in music based solely on his music, unfortunately the focus on the enigma that was Michael Jackson eventually surpassed his music to the point where albums weren't selling like they used to for him.

If he had not touched his face from Thriller, the sky would have been the limit for him. His weird appearance IMO become a massive albatross commercially for him. I even remember loving Remember The Time when it came out, but the massive negative stereotype of him and his bizzare look originally holding me back from buying the Dangerous album.
