I was kind of living with three metalhead stoners when Dimebag died. Was huge. Death in the family is an understatement, as, even when I've actually had family members die, the outpouring of grief and mourning I noticed/experienced doesn't even come close to matching that of a bunch of grown men off their faces bawling their eyes out to Cemetery Gates on repeat.

I take it they cranked this song up repeatedly when it was first released then?

Kurt Cobain was flavour of the month for 5 minutes whose musical legacy is grossly overrated, even though I am a fan of his work.

Michael Jackson has been a superstar for 40 years. You tell me if Tupac or Kurt Cobain could sell out 50 gigs in a matter of minutes, and could have sold out another 50?

MJ, like Elvis and The Beatles, transcended the music itself. Whether you like him, or his music, or not, he is in the absolute top handful of performers who have graced the stage.

It is an insult to his legacy as an entertainer to even mention Tupac or Kurt Cobain in the same sentence.

michael jackson lost relevance to me when i got into music by nirvana, r.e.m. in the 90s

michael jackson was the last of the stars to take advantage of a different society back then. nothing that comes out in today's society can make people feel awestruck anymore

it doesnt matter if youre justin timberlake (i like my indie music, but he does make an occassional good tune) , rihanna or even miley cyrus.

No understanding at all of what a multi-syllabic rhyme is, internal rhyming, punchline rhyming, wordplay etc.

You have a crystal clear refusal to even be willing to learn what rhyming in hiphop entails, and yet you rubbish the genre. Please tell me how that is not ignorance?

I don't like AC/DC's music, but at least I had a willingness to understand why they have the place in music that they do.

Just because you don't like how music sounds doesn't mean you can't respect it. Agree or disagree?

Songwriting with singing is very different as you have less words to say within a verse/bar, so the ability to convey a message with lesser words is paramount and as you know there are many techniques to do this.

For what it's worth, a HUGE amount of hiphop, particularly production-wise, has been directly influenced by Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 and James Brown. Not to mention the countless references paying tributes to the Jacksons throughout hiphop history.

Exactly, it isn't like just because someone likes Hiphop they hate everything else. I like some MJ stuff for what it is, pop music (some of it very danceable)
