Natanui gave us an awful reaming last night, so the performance of the midfield has to be judged from the viewpoint of not even break even ruck work.
Lobbe spent a lot of time at the centre bounces eyeing up Natanui, before leaping for the ball. I'm not sure "leaping" is the right word, as he can be both a prisoner of gravity, as well as occasionally getting into the air.
That suited Natanui, who was already a metre above him.
Ryder also had a poor night. The leap was there but timing seemed out.

People make mistakes - it's how they learn from them that counts. Voss made plenty of mistakes at Brisbane and the team's results were poor as head coach. But it's hard to believe he's that bad (and hasn't learnt). I mean, Sanderson took the Crows to a prelim in his first year. Was he a great coach? Not even close. I think Voss and his influence deserves a lot more time to assess. Let's see how the midfield performs with a fully fit Wines and Polec for one thing.

People are just trying to look clever by isolating one particular area/individual as being the problem, which is just as irrational as the spooge over the photos of Voss wrestling with our mids over summer. It's the whole system that's the issue at the moment. Midfield looks good if the forwards set up well and the forwards look great if the midfield does their job. We're struggling and as bloody frustrating and disappointing as it is, there's no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'll wait and see if a few minor mental adjustments don't have a profound impact on how our gameplan looks to be shaping up.

The ball ups by the umpire seemed a lot lower than normal. Have not seen the replay to confirm my feeling but they looked different.

Our midfield played like millionaire 's, we need to go lower, harder for longer. Give the first option and Westoff is not a clearence player nor is he a link up mid. He should not be in at center bounces unless he is ruck.

We also need to give Jacko a few runs in the ruck.

He has taken our midfield backwards! We don't have one.

I am sensing our biggest loss over the off season was our midfield coach

perhaps we should do a mid season reshuffle

Nah Vossy is fine but will take time. Walsh was regarded, by some, as the best tactical brain in the business. Whether true or not he is a significant loss, however he have had three different midfield coaches in the past 3 years. We also lost Richardson who was important tactically and with player development. The effect this turn over has had may be catching up with our midfield. Contrast it to the stability and success that we are having in defence with Matthew Nicks being there for 3+ years now.

Yes this is why we need to try and aggressively keep good staff.

What are the odds the sharks at Carlton will now be circling... if they haven't been already.

Lately been linked to a reinvigorated John Worsfold.

Dunno about Voss, doesn't look like he has bought much to our midfield. Hoping that his touch emerges sometime soon and that it is positive. So far this year our midfield has not worked.

Walsh and Richo going has hurt big time but it is not like they left for assistant coaching jobs, they took head coaching jobs so there was no way we could keep them, just not sure if the replacement is working this time. We got lucky with Walsh choosing us over the crows after Richo left but not sure about Voss yet. Carn Vossy, give us something!

No split loyalty for Voss as he returns to Gabba — it’s all about Port
HE’S the Lions’ greatest ever player, a three-time premiership hero, a former captain and ex-coach but Michael Voss says he feels no emotion as he returns to Brisbane.

Voss has seemingly done it all at the Gabba and on Sunday — for the first time — he will be part of an opposition coaching panel.
“When you move to another club your focus in completely on them, and your mindset, and that’s where all your interest goes,’’ said Voss, now a senior coach with the Port Adelaide.
