I'm with Gbatman on this: we are actually playing our plan B all the time because we are not good enough to play Plan A. Trouble is we are not good enough for Plan B either and I don't think there is a Plan C. Unless its to chip the ball sideways and backwards in our back half until we turn it over and they score. If it is, we have it down to a T.When the players themselves seem to struggle to understand the gameplan, what hope have we poor mortal supporters/fans?
However, I guess the obvious thing from the start is Mick has tried to implement his (in)famous boundary hugging style gameplan.
Problem is, you need a very fit squad to be able to handle this. Big FAIL there for us already. Plus I suppose you need players with pretty decent defensive nous and let's face it, we have a lot of players who don't appear to be the most footy smart. And the ones who do appear to have the smarts, are not the dour defensive types anyway - they're typically our more attacking players who have some flair.
And then the thing I absolutely cannot fathom - playing half the midfield as taggers. In a nutshell IMO Mick's gameplan seems extremely negative in it's approach and lately we're seeing all the attacking flair completely taken away. For a while we would see the Ratten gameplan re-emerge for a quarter or two and we'd play quite a bit better but now, we just about never see it. We've got a negative, restricting type gameplan for a list that will probably never be able to properly play it.
I said that in one of the other threads...Every one of the coaching staff should have to reapply for their position at the end of the year. We should accept other applicants too and hire the best people for the roles. Revolutionary, I know.

If they were to sack Mick immediately and put Laidley into place as caretaker for the rest of the year (and did what both myself and MEB_ suggested)... I would make one of the proviso's of his getting the caretaker job would be to play the kids for the rest of the year.Either play the kids or don't - let's plan ahead
"Goddess"

Malthouse is a good coach,,,your list is poor.
I think that he does... and a good supply of xanax as wellDo you have your own clipboard?

And during said hot potato we always end up getting burnt. The crowd slowly went insane today watching the backline switch-passing which was really just a dumb version of hot potato.

Xanax is goneI think that he does... and a good supply of xanax as well![]()
I would leave Sav Rocca in charge of our forward line to be honest... he has had charge of training Cas for 2 weeks and we have already seen a massive improvement. After his years of being trained by the coaches over in the states, I think that he has a few ideas on how to get the best out of misfiring forwards. No green or barker
So we need people who know their ass from their elbow?
New concept for the club
Lock it in
In the state of shock-horror that we now perpetually live, this is one positive that has seen a slight ray of excitement pierce the blackness. #KeepSavI would leave Sav Rocca in charge of our forward line to be honest... he has had charge of training Cas for 2 weeks and we have already seen a massive improvement. In a furthering of your analogy, Primus wasn't fantastic but he wasn't the main problem at Port Adelaide. He didn't have proper support (the head coach might be the spokesperson of all coaches but he's only like 1/10th of them) and the people making decisions higher up were stuck in the wrong mindset.Very similar situation to Port under Primus. Plenty of good kids to pick, but you wouldn't know the way Primus was coaching.
Imagine a coach having total belief in their own ability to coach. Of course you would much rather a coach with doubts about his coaching ability.Sorry for my intrusion and I know hearing from a Collingwood supporter is the last thing you want but here it goes.
Your former coach Ratten did a better job with a list of similar depth and quality IMO.
You finished with 11 wins in 2012.
In contrast Port only won 5.
Mick stuffed up from the start by letting his ego get in the way and he overestimated his own ability.
He thought he could mould your group into a premiership contender and was busy on the book tour when he should have been turning over the list that very first preseason and looking to improve it via draft position or trade.
In 2013 the problem was only compounded when you made the finals by default owing to the Essendon situation and this again papered over the obvious cracks of the playing list that surfaced during the season and a proper rebuild was once again delayed.
The game is ever changing, it's more tactical than ever before and the coaches playbook is ever increasing.
His game plan has served him well for 3 decades but you feel these last couple of seasons we've reached the tipping point where the key platform of his plan, kicking around the boundary and being predictable to one another in doing so is now a major hindrance.
Hell Scott used this to his advantage against us 3 times in 2011.
Only a fool would believe Mick is solely responsible for your current situation but an even bigger one couldn't see he's played a supporting role in your demise and his time is up.
