I'll check out my PC tomorrow after school, how many of us will there be? I have 8gb ram, which can host about 5 people based on other servers.

Edit 1: Either that or we all chip in for a $10 per month server? Only going to need it for a month, then we take the world file and save it, share it around and we're done.

Alternatively, someone sets up a free server, we all play on it until we're done, take the world save and have a ton of fun without paying a cent.

The purpose is to just have a good time and be creative, rather than fork out money. We just need someone who's willing to host the server that will have a computer that will be on for a fair chunk of time (a lot of people have one computer in the house that stays on for most of the day downloading and such).
 
Yeah, was just an idea. Wasn't sure, yeah I have one that stays on all day, but weather that can host or not is the issue, its very old, mine's new so if I port-forward it could be perfect.. youtube directions to the rescue!

Give this a look. This is what I was going to do, but realised it would be pointless for me to host because I don't keep my laptop on all day. :thumbsu:

Yeah, this is my issue. I can't leave my laptop on all day so no chance of a server hoster here.

Honestly is it really that bad to pay for one if it'll be more convenient?

Throw a couple of dollars on new Paypal account (to assure no funny business) and get working on the G project. Then after a month or however long it takes, we finish.

I enjoy the game enough to put a few bucks in to get this amazing project underway. It'd just be like paying for DLC on an awesome game.

I just have so much n00b when it comes to this stuff though. So I'd probably struggle to set anything up.

If we even it out, it's about $2-3 per person for a month. You spend more than that on a bag of lollies. This will also mean an server that is 24/7, and dedicated meaning lag = next to no chance. We can install plugins, etc.
 
It's sounding more and more like a good idea, and I think we can get a good 5+ people to join the project. Some may also want to join afterwards but at the end of the day, as said, it's only a couple of bucks we're putting in so it doesn't matter.

I'd be fine to pay for it and have people reimburse me, thought I knows jack about PayPal.

Meaning of PayPal: Put money in, thats all you can spend. So if you chuck $10 on, that's all that can come out, (MAKE SURE CREDIT CARD ISN'T CONNECTED AFTERWARDS), then 5 people - $2 each, easy peezy. I'll ask my mum about giving $2, tomorrow being its gonna be her card, aha, it also mean's whoever is hosting wont have their internet burned out in 2 days.

I love this game. I bought three accounts and set up a LAN server and my 2 kids play it with me. Unfortunately I found out how to give things as a server op, so I don't do to much hunter gathering. Been playin it for months and only just found out about the portals, holy crap a whole new nether world.

Im just trying out the single player Millenaire mod, it adds villages and npcs that build these villages and grow, and you can also trade with them. Well worth a look.

Is there any good multiplayer server mods siniliar to this, or that greatly enhance the gameplay.

I've heard Hamachi works too. It's probably worth a shot before we put in money.
