Was told today GWS are making a big play for Mitch Brown and are prepared to give a minidraft pick to get him.
Looks like they are offering the second minidraft pick for Mitch Brown.
Also Mitch's girlfriend as attracted interest from the sydney swifts netball side, so he could be amenable to a move.
Was told WCE said they would wait to after the finals to negotiate, but ideally wanted to keep Brown.

I think that would be a mistake as we could use Fraser McInnes as a defender, and pick up a Hogan
as a foward replacement, and Hogan looks pretty special.

Who is likely to be offered for the first minidraft pick, and who would be taken with that pick?

I have no idea but it will take a lot more than Mitch Brown to get that first pick.
Jack Martin is a champion in the waiting, it will take a lot to get him.
GWS need KPD so looks like they are using that second pick as leverage.
The first pick would be used to get the best compensation they can get, which should be a lot.

Brown + Stevens/Smith/1st rounder for Martin? Would take.

Then draft for mids and KPDs.

Just to clarify, the fact I think we should do this is nothing against Brown.

A pick in the mini draft is essentially a top 5 ish pick for the following year. Not only that, but becuase of the allowance to train for the whole year with the club the physical development will be accelerated and they would know the game plan far better too.

If we did this I hope the club would look seriously at at the very least rookie listing one of the better mature aged defenders in the vfl of wafl as cover for injuries next season.

More important than all this is that not one Sydney Swifts joke has been made yet.

Not sure McInnes has the agility/dexterity to play in defence. I see him more as a forward. Doubt this will happen anyway although I wouldn't be surprised if our guys rated Hogan above Martin. We probably need an elite midfielder more though.

This draft has decent KP Defender depth throughout so if Brown was traded for a midfielder we could pick up a Nicholas Rodda etc quite easily.

Will a draftee be ready in a two years time when Glass retires? We might have to look at drafting a mature age KPD to fill the gap.

Do we need a player like Hogan, or should we go after midfield talent if we do get the 2nd MD pick?

I remember reading a few weeks ago about a Vic mid who's apparently jumped up the rankings ahead of Martin, Hogan etc.
