Toast Mitch Brown

First game can be a poor indicator of a players capabilities. Take Vardy for instance , no sleep etc.

We should play MitchB for 3 or 4 , lets see if he can take more more marks 1o1 , take more on the lead , sure he has plenty of growth to come but I'm not sure we saw him play to his current potential in his first game. Considering he kicked 3 , thats enticing prospect.

The next 10 weeks are going to show us if we can win the flag again this year or if we fade like we did last year. Our backline is as good as always. Our midfield is still doing it's job and most of the forward line is doing what is required. The one missing piece of the puzzle is the 2nd KPF. Brown looks good but will he be up to a big finals campaign against the other big teams. I don't think so. Give hime a few more games to give him a feel for it but to towards the end of the season we will have to make a big call.

A fully fit and in form Mooney would be the missing piece but I think he has run out of time to show enough to win back his KP and do the extra ruckwork that we have moved to with the new one ruck policy through a long finals campaign. We have only 2 options. A natural ruckman who can kick a couple of goals each week and bring the ball to ground in Vardy (but who struggles in the 2nd half of games due to his age) and Hawkins who is a natural forward who is only so/so in the ruck. I hope the Hawk can get himself up for it and shut up the critics but feel Vardy will get the nod. I just hope he can get himself up for a whole game when it counts.

I had to lol at the Hun yesterday saying that Mooney moved better in the VFL on the weekend and was in the mix for selection this week.

Ok then, sure. Mooney is going to be picked ahead of who exactly?
A debutant that booted 3 goals on his first match and is in form, or perhaps he could take over a ruck position from Vardy or Ottens - both of whom are also in great form.

Papers shit me sometimes..... not saying Moons isnt a great player, but I cant see Scotty giving an out of form player a run just on their merit.

Mooney wasn't bad, but he doesn't look fit enough for AFL level at all. He should be kept in the VFL for the rest of the year to teach some kids.

As for Brown, he's becoming my favourite young player after the games I've seen him in the VFL. He could be a star of the game in a few years. Well done to him finally getting a game, hope he gets a few more this year.

Yeah, because correct me if I am wrong but wasn't it Anthony Rocca who was involved in Browns leg break accident, and another senior listed player was involved in Brown doing his shoulder ?

So I'm just saying that playing VFL is not necessarily going to protect him from injury because there are big units playing VFL and the contests can be just as fierce

Few games this year, similar to Menzel and Duncan last year, to get him in a good state for next year ( experience etc), maybe until Mooney is ready or Hawkin's can start tearing it up in the 2's.

Speaking of toma-H, lets see the dude play a whole game at full forward in the reserves, monster and maul some young defender and get the killer instinct he needs. Any new's on Carey spending some time with him?

Oops, hijacked this thread there. Well done M Brown, work your arse off and try and learn a lot of what it takes. We look forward to your 70 goal plus season next year;);)
