None of this PSD talk is news. Everyone already knew that if GWS picked him up, Brisbane would get a compensation pick. Not like it will matter though, Clark doesn't want to go to Sydney. I would gladly put money on him not going to GWS even if he went in the PSD. The same goes for Melbourne, albeit to a lesser degree. The AFLPA would be all over it.

Still think the deal will be 16 + 20 for Clark + 30/34 though.

If we get him, great. If not, life will go on. We won't have 'lost' anything.
We only had a look because he's desperate to come to us; It's not like we have targeted him thinking he's the missing piece in our premiership puzzle.

Will never happen. You need to read the whole story. If GWS or Port don't pick him, Melbourne will. So Freo need to pay up.

ive read the whole story buddy.....ive been living on twitter, big footy and the herald sun website for the last 5 days......no team will select a player that openly said he only wants to play for freo......cost is too much and the fact they miss the opportunity to develop another player means no deal!!!! clark will be ours for one of pick 16 or 20 or free. the same happened with tarrant, carr, mcphee.....why would this be any different....clark is not wirth more than 16.....end of story.....even if we had all the gws picks i still wouldnt cough up more than 16....if 20 is reasonable compensation for palmer then 20 is reasonable compensation for clark

I think a deal will be done, but if Clark does go into the PSD I think GWS are unlikely to take him.

GWS are reportedly paying Scully 2 million this year and you'd expect them to heavily front load Ward and Davis' 800k and Palmer's 500K pa, they could already be close to 100% of the cap. This allows plenty of cap space to chase players next year the likes of Goddard, Pendlebury, etc.

A disgruntled Clark may only cost them $600K this year but it could cost them Goddard next year.

Also depending on what happens with Luke Power it could cost them a chance at signing an uncontracted Brisbane player like Redden next year as well.

You'd think the National Draft would rule out Brisbane and GWS as candidates (they wouldn't be willing to use their picks). Melboune has offered Pick 12 though, so will most likely be prepared to use it to pick him up.

All of this of course pends on Clark and his willingness to play away from WA and if clubs will take the chance on him.

I'd expect him to get to Freo though, one way or another.

Yes, you get another selection at the ND. Apparently you will stop picking in the 30's, so it means you'll be needing to use another pick in the 30's after delisting Clark. Therefore, you'd be better off taking Pick 20.

Palmer and Clark's career achievements have been about on par so far. Palmer had a very good first year (NAB Rising Star?) but injury hindered his next few years and it has hurt his performances and he hasn't looked the same since. Clark took longer to develop, but also had his own injury trouble, had a breakout year in 2009, making the AA 40 man squad (would have been AA had a certain 211cm giant not been playing), had to take a back seat to Brown and Fevola for most of 2010 whilst being unable to play no.1 ruckman because of the development of Leuenberger and performed reasonably well as a key target in 2011, with limited supply. Not much between them really.
The difference is inside midfielders such as Palmer are easier to come across than 200cm KPP's who can take ruck duties
