Mitch Hahn

None of these guys will provide better output in 2011 than Hahn.
Hasn't THIS thinking been proven wrong by Jarryd Blair?

For the role that Mitch Hahn is capable of contributing in (an essentially full time medium sized forward), we have one spot in our team. Brent Macaffer is the incumbent, and currently capable of backing up in that role of the players on our list would be: Tyson Goldsack, John McCarthy, Simon Buckley, Scott Reed, Tom Hunter, Tom Young.

Then there's the fact that we don't necessarily need someone of that exact type in the side if there are players of other types capable of contributing.

These are the picks later than 60 in the ND or in the RD that we've taken from the standard U/18 competition since Hine has been here:

Ben Davies
Harry O'Brien
Tyson Goldsack
Sharrod Wellingham
Brent Macaffer
Sam Iles
Alan Toovey
Danny Nicholls
Shannon Cox
Luke Casey-Leigh
Tristan Francis
Jarryd Blair
Johnny Bennell
Ben Sinclair
Josh Thomas
Tom Hunter
Jack Carter

The names in bold are obvious successes, and the ones in italics I'm confident about. In case you're not keeping up, that's SIX premiership players... Why would we not take another opportunity to pick up a player of that calibre for the future?

Unless you can offer a situation where we might not be able to win the flag next year UNLESS we pick up Mitch Hahn, then I'm going to go with continuing to build through youth.

matty,

Factors (judging by tab.com.au) stopping us from going back to back seem minimal so I think we attempt to prevent what we can control. If there is a better team suddenly then so be it. I agree with you to a point.

Factors that can stop us are injuries and form.

The only position I feel we lack a LOT of cover is in the L.Brown position as a forward who can ruck bearing in mind the new bench rules.

If the consensus is to bring in Wood if L.Brown is injured and play Wood as the number 1 ruckman with Jolly playing forward a lot then fine.

But in summary, with the new bench rules we may need L.Brown even more now re his versatility and Jolly's ruck output, but a Mitch Hahn or Cameron Cloke or W.Skipper type taken with a late pick would aid our Premiership chances (as backup) by never actually having to play 1 senior game.

If you want a forward ruck then you want a johnson or a skipper

Hahn is barely KPP let alone a ruck ffs

Honestly, anyone who wants Mitch Hahn is almost moronic.

He has never performed on the big stage (finals), is 29, isn't tall enough to play Key position, or at least he doesn't play like a KPP, and he simply isn't a class player.

I don't want him, I really hope we ignore all the "recycled" players out there, I don't see anything I like, at all, that can help us win another premiership, and ultimately that's what it's about.

Question to those "Hahn-believers", do you think we would win the 2011 Grand Final if Mitch Hahn was playing in our side?

I hop we ignore all the recycled players out there too...except that one player no-ones else rated who turns out to be ANVIL II-World Dominator.:thumbsu::D

That won't be Hahn.

Because we're all backing his recruitment in the hope he plays on Grand Final day, right?

Simon Buckley as a medium forward? That's the first I've heard of that. Has he played that role before? Scott Reed and Tom Hunter would provide lesser output imo. Tom Young is obviously yet to be seen.

He'd rightly start behind Goldsack. There have been worse injury criseses though.

If we have a player we genuinely rate that somehow slides to us at pick 80 odd in this draft, then by all means, select them. I'm simply saying if we choose to take Hahn in the PSD for free, I'm happy for that to happen. If we take him, we obviously don't rate the young players on offer for our final draft pick. I'd much rather take an experienced, hard bodied player than take a young player for the sake of youth.

Similar logic could've been applied to recruiting Leigh Brown. If the remaining youth isn't rated, I'm happy to go with Hahn.

Pass, was a decent player a few years ago, watch us against dogs in final this year, then you will see how bad he is now.....

His best has dried up. I'd suspect the club puts these plans on Ice.

Mitch Hahn won't effect our rookie drafting though, he'll be taking a senior list spot. The rookie draft should be used for the speculative picks.

this makes no sense at all. All spots on the list, whether rookie or senior, are important.

Someone we might be looking at as a rookie, we can take in the ND especially now the rules around playing rookie in the seniors are so easily manipulated.

I'd prefer we draft a 22 year old with excellent VFL form than a 29 year old Mitch Hahn if we want a bit more experience than just kids.

There is ALWAYS youth that is rated left available.

We're going to have to draft a couple of kids in the Rookie Draft, and Mitch Hahn would have to go before that, so if there's literally no one we rate by our final pick in the ND then it doesn't auger well for the Rookie Draft.

The fact is, taking kids with picks late in the draft is always going to be somewhat of a crapshoot - We need to maximise our chances by using the picks on kids, rather than throw one of those chances away on a virtually useless player that we could cover with any one of a number of scenarios.

Your position also presupposes a complete lack of faith in our youth, which is dumb, shortsighted, and guaranteed to be a position that isn't going to be shared by the football department.

Goldsack, McCarthy, Reed, Young and Hunter would all rightly be preferred to Mitch Hahn - You're part of a tiny majority that wants to abandon the youth focus that we've had for the ENTIRETY of Malthouse's tenure at Collingwood.

I wouldn't be totally against it but 29 is too old for a recycled player. Only if Hine thought there was no player worth picking would I like to see us take a punt on him. Well it's more waste a pick on him to get some insurance. But he's not a great player, and he's not big. He's determined and gives his all, but I doubt we'd select him.

Hahn is finished, used himself as a battering ram for soft bulldogs sides as the only thing that semi resembles a power forward.

Has slowed down far too much and is too suspect with injuries

Agreed. Hahn is well and truly finished. Looked like a complete liability towards the end of the year, he would have to be one of the slowest players in the afl.

Ok, let's compare.

Leigh Brown, high draft pick, natural talent, can play ruck, forward or back, and has a physical presence almost unmatched in the AFL on field.

Mitch Hahn, mid draft pick (37), little natural talent, almost no versatility (IMO, can only play as a 3rd-4th forward), has very little physical presence, especially in big games.

You can't compare the 2 in terms of pickups, Hahn will turn 30 next year, if we even think about taking him, I'll scream murder.

Hahn doesn't fill a need, we need KPP backup, not undersized, under skilled non physical medium forwards.

(If you can't tell by now, I DON'T RATE MITCH HAHN AT ALL, never have, never will).

so Matty, if CFC left it to you to take one and only one recycled player with our last pick, who would you take?

For mine, if nothing better is delisted, I would still take C.Cloke.

Hahn is as tough as they come and is capable of picking up the third tall down back. No issue with you not wanting to pick him up but you severely underrate the bloke who was one of the best defensive forwards a short time ago and was the one man engine room for the doggies forward line that kept them going for years.

May not have anything left in the tank (i'm a little sceptical after his end to the season) but if he does, i'm all for his recruitment as a backup plan.
