Wonder whats happened....still had 1 year to run on his contract:confused:
definately off-field you would assume.

Would get him over for a fitness test, have him sit down with Harvey, Bond & Co. and if they believe that a change of scenery will get the best out of this kid, then i say chop Murphy and pick him up ;)

I'd like him at Freo.
Apparently on the Hawks Board he's actually fit and training no niggles from what i hear...

Why would we want to bring someone in with alleged piss poor attitude after Freo' FC have invested in a few seasons now of weeding those types out... ???

2006 NAB AFL Draft 1st round selection (Hawthorn) No. 6 overall. 194 cm.

Not that that necessarily counts for much but still has been blighted by injury & by accounts on the Hawks board is now fit.
Then found it hard to get a game in front of Buddy & Roughhead
Requested a trade as well...probably for these reasons.

We could do worse. Though would prefer McDonald in the PSD

Pick your reason -

It is a list saving move ...rather than carry 1 or 2 perpetually injured player and 1 or 2 guys with a questionable attitude - just have 1.

In Thorp ...out BOB, Foster & Murphy ...frees up 2 spots on the list

or

The dudes a free ...20 year old 194 cm forward with obvious skill. ? on injury but ditch Browne, BOB and Foster - we can carry 1.

Depending on what he has done or his tood, again happy to let Harvey/Bond call it ...perhaps a change in state may be a good thing.

Basically ruckmen aside - he would be the 2nd tallest player on our senior list and if we can get him right injury wise (ala Luke McPharlin) - he could be a KP for us for a decade.

I'd take the risk personally ....he is from the draft period where we just missed out on everyone, Hawks we owe for the whole Croad -# 1 pick - Dunn
thing plus if we could find a 190cm + player for the price of a space on our list ....do it.

Can we rookie list him? I'm keen on McDonald in the PSD because I think he's a better player. Or we might get both of them there, depending how many clubs will participate in the PSD [and there's a fair bit of choice too]

Obviously you can't read too much into what a club says in it's media release, but this is what they had to say about Thorp....

“Mitch requested to be considered for a trade, but unfortunately this was not able to be achieved during trade week.

“After further consultation with Mitch and his management, we felt it was best for Mitch’s interests to seek a fresh start at another club.

Attitude problems or not, he is a talent and might just need a fresh start. He'd be the one I would talk to about the PSD...

Hell I'd be happy if we used our last 2 picks in the ND on McDonald and Thorpe if they nominate.

4, 20, 36, 48, 49, 52 & 68

Hell yeah I'd give him a go, looks like a bloody star that just hasn't been given an opportunity through injury and Franklin/Roughead. I'd pick this guy up in a milli second.

Here are just some of the quotes being bandied around about him.

Looks to have great agility and very clean, powerful grip/hands.

Really liked what I saw.

He appears to be a ready made player; he looked very good last year, I liken his style to that of Pavlich

That was what I thought too last year around draft time. Thorp has the ability to play anywhere, even in the midfield. Remember Pavlich also played midfield for about a year.

He's already capable of kicking well on both sides of the body too. General kicking is pretty good but needs to fine tune his set shots. A big athletic guy who will be very good when he develops. :thumbsu:

i'm a crows fan but do live in vic & have seen this kid play & i believe he will be the best player from this draft he can run jump take a grab & kick a goal he is seriously special & your forward line in 2 years will be unstoppable

And the last qoute was from a Carlton fan, but I just couldn't help but laugh at the last line there and thought you guys might like a giggle as well:D

Plus Carlton need to find a decent tall lead up forward to develop now to replace Fev in a few years. We traded Kennedy for Judd (Who wouldn't?) but its left us a bit bare with our KPF stocks up in front of the sticks. Our 'window' opens soon and we don't want to be stuck without a forward.

Thanks for the opinion btw.

Yeah I wouldn't mind picking up Thorp with our last pick in the ND and taking McDonald in the PSD.

Only if Harvs and 007 think he's a good fit though.

The club had huge wraps on Thorp(stmt of the obvious - I know)....but his injuries kept him out....totally screwed during the 09 season

Really thought it was looking good as of last 2 weeks, fit and training well, but something has happened that the club has decided to move him on.

I hope Freo go get him, IF (and it is a big IF) they can keep his head right, he could fit in the forward line for you guys well.

He's got a bit of mongrel and he's still only 20.

Pick him up at basement prices and make it work Freo!

I find it unlikely that if Thorp was to enter the ND, then he would still be available at our last pick (#49). Still pretty young, and just as much potential as any possible draftee.

We'll have to work out what it is we really need, a young forward like Thorp or a proven medium/tall defender in Macdonald. And convince which ever one we choose to go to the PSD.

Getting both is unlikely, and I would rather draft a new kid instead of taking two recycled players.

I wonder exactly what they mean by bad attitude though. If he's just cracked the shits because he's got no hope of getting a game over the Frankhead combo then a change of scenery could be all he needs.

dont know if its true or not BUT the rumour is.............

thorpe got pissed off that he wasnt give opportunity, or wont get in the hawks foward line & was told he would be playing here there & everywhere.
thorpe,s dad thinks his son is being wasted by the hawks & will be a star at another team.

thorpe asked for a trade, prefferably to richmond where former hawthorn assistant coach now richmond coach is.

deal couldnt be done...........usual pelchen bullshit asked for a 2nd round pick or player speculation about rance.

very good chance richmond psd pick 2

Thanks Market. We need him more than McDonald. Would be a great pick up.

I agree, the positives far outweigh the negatives. He fits all of our criteria and he is EXACTLY the kind of player that we need. Big key position forward who is able to kick bags of goals.

Imagine him being flanked by Balla and Mayne with the PAV sitting at CHF.

Rather an appealing prospect dont you think???

We should be moving mountains to get him in the PSD, if we can get McDonald as well great, but third up backmen are nowhere near as important to us as a KP Forward is. I dont think that anyone will be disputing that.

Make the offer in the PSD, it is time that Pav has some real assistance.

Seems like the best scenario for us is to get Ball, McDonald and Thorp to all nominate for the PSD. Ball is linked to Melbourne but it still means we have to end up with one of them that way, most likely Thorp or McDonald.

Unless he has huge injury concerns he fits the requirements perfectly and we should be moving heaven and Earth to get him along with the youngsters in the ND.

I think you contradicted yourself there. How do they equate to 2 recycled players after those statements? Thorp is 5 years younger than MacDonald

I was looking around youtube to look for some footage of Thorp to see what he's like...

Not exactly on topic, but I found Rioli's goal of the year. Im sure you guys will appreciate this... Ripper goal for the runner up to the rising star :p;)

can anyone find any footage of Thorp ??

What I meant was that another club will pick him up before our last pick if Thorp was to enter the ND, based on his age and potential. Whereas some people were suggesting we just use our last pick in ND on him.

Personally, I would take one of Thorp or Macdonald in the PSD. But I would stick to new players in the ND. Because there will be options available later in the draft, ones who haven't tried and been delisted already.

It makes sense in my mind....

He's always had a 'questionable' attitude, ever since his junior days. I dont know the guy so i dont want to bag him out unfairly but the rumours were that he didnt lack for any self confidence.

There have been mutterings about him leaving over the past few months. Going off what I've heard, I'd be surprised if he wanted to leave Vic if there were clubs willing to give him a game there. (I know he's from Tassie)
