Can I ask you guys, what was Barry like as a coach of the Bullants?

I know he had his problems with Pagan, but overlooking that for a second, did he develop the youngsters well whilst at the same time trying to get some wins?

I'd be interested to see what some of you think.

As a VFL coach he seemed to get the best out of his players and the Ants' record under him is quite impressive (other than choking in finals after great seasons).

However, there have been some serious question marks over the development of some of our younger players and some of that ultimately has to fall on him...

Well, he was hamstrung by the 12:10 system, and also having to serve masters at Royal Parade. Those problems won't change.

From what I saw he was very good with younger players, and a very good communicator. His biggest problem at the Bullants was a lack of VFL-listed talent. The AFL-listed players will only get a side so far - you need to just top up a solid VFL side with them to be successful.

In his role as an AFL assistant it was Mitch that suggested playing Ratten and Kouta as midfielders, so he has a good eye for possibilities.

I think you've done well to pick him up.
