Both similar types... In and under and get plenty of the footy.

Ball use Mitchell > Black
Endurance Mitchell < Black
Ability to change a game Mitchell < Black Just

Id take Black only because of "awards really". He has been there and done that

3 X Premierships
1 X Brownlow

Who would you take....

If it's who i'd take now, it'd be Mitchell. But at their respective primes, I do believe Simon Black to be one of the most under-rated elite footballers out there. I mean, the way he'd just continuously carve up the hawks was just... predictable almost. Don't get me wrong, I love Mitchell, and would argue with anyone who doesn't reckon he's elite. But at their primes, it has to be Black.

Re: that Mitchell has even admitted that he isn't hugely blessed by the footy gods. So his A-game today is even more impressive. Having said that; Black's prime was during that Lions era; so maybe he was made to look better than he was...

Both freaks... Mitchell may end his career with similar awards to Black... Just because Black played in a better side early in his career doesn't really make him a better player.

Mitchell has improved his kicking 100 fold over the last 2 years. Is now very dangerous from the centre square kicking it with penetration into the forward 50..

Cant vote Black because of who i support... for the same reason shouldn't vote Mitchell.

Good Poll... but I will leave this one to the supporters of other clubs

It certainly helps to have Voss and Akermanis at your side so there's more targets to tag, but Black has copped a heavy tag throughout his career.

It's arguable he's played his best football in these past 2 seasons (before injuries curtailed his influence). To basically have to carry the midfield load on his own and still dominating clearances, he's as good as he's been. Slowed down over the last couple of months because of various niggles.

interesting poll. I would have compared Mitchell and Power, similar age, similar style. but Black for me

Mitchell is a gun but Black has him covered quite easily in the talent dept. In the end arguably the most talented of the famed quartet.

Black, and quite easily too.

Not having a go at Mitchell, but Black is in another league.

*voting on the basis of both players in their prime.

Both under-rated players (though Sammy not so much this year - if anything the medja now over-rating him - how he got votes for this week I don't know, and it's happened a bit).

Black was arguably the best midfielder in the best midfield of recent memory. (Better than Lappin, Power, probably #2 to Voss, but only just).

Mitchell is arguably the best midfielder in his team. (Hodge, Bateman, Sewell all with various claims).

If I had to choose one now, I'd choose Mitchell, but only due to age and form (this week notwithstanding), but Black should be remembered as a very, very good player (almost a great).
