I have to admit I haven't. Acquaint me with them....

Kevin Johnson is and Oz artist who did Rock & Roll You Gave Me The Best Years Of My Life and Bonnie Please Don't Go. Friends Of Mine is fairly MOR but I like the lyrics about growing up listening to the radio. It goes about 4 or 5 mins so not high points for epicness there but builds nicely to the finale.

Chicago's Make Me Smile is off the same album as 25 or 6 to 4, which you would have heard, I guess, and shows they were putting out some good stuff back then [1970ish]. It is more brass and keyboard based but is quite a journey through several movements [tracks] in different styles. It goes about 10 minutes.

All of these Epic songs discussed here are COMPLETE RUBBISH

I would define Epic as mindless, self indulgent, inane, and self important garbage that goes on for far TOOO LONG

I notice the usual exponents are discused here Rush, Tool
and of course the mindless, pompous, self indulgent over produced works of Meatloaf/Steinman. I dont think Jim Steimans epic "Rock and Roll Dreams Come True" has a wagnerism atmosphere but more of a self indulgent , self important, overproduced w***erism atmosphere.

But then agiain I dislike this genre intensely

I find the Ramones " Blitzkrieg Bop" far more satisfying with the "Hey Ho, Lets Go" defined as their mission statement and it only takes two minutes 11 seconds!!

The only Epic song I have listened to in the last 10 years is

Magic Man By Heart on You Tube and that was only to perv on the Wilson Sisters!

Also shame on me for forgetting a song I don't think has been mentioned yet, Speed Metal Symphony, almost 10 minutes of guitar brilliance by the magician that is Vai.

Tears of the Dragon by Bruce Dickinson at the moment , it's got into my head and just keeps going around and around.

Sounds good!

Unless Vai has recorded a cover... that would be a song by Cacophony, featuring Marty Friedman (who later joined Megadeth) and Jason Becker (who later joined David Lee Roth's band).

Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia

Vastly underrated song IMHO.

i was waiting for some idiot to drop this song.

it is not epic. it is a conceited attempt to pull off an epic song. greenday tried to hard.

other epic songs:

storm - godspeed you! black emperor (the first 6 minutes are insane)
worms of the senses/faculties of the skull - refused
and also id consider alot of trail of deads... source codes and tags as a pretty epic album. its huge.
and add alot of 65daysofstatic tracks in there too.

At the Drive In- Invalid Litter Dept. The two minute breakdown at the end is just massive, slays me everytime. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Oh yeah.

Just about anything by Mars Volta... I didn't like their album, Frances the Mute, at first but now I can't get enough of it. Brilliant stuff

You love FTM but can't throw a mention to De-Loused in the Comatorium? Sheesh :p

You got Muse, ATDI, TMV, and QOTSA all in one post...I think I love you.

What about MacArthur Park?

50 versions and the Donna Summer one went on forever - 8 minutes 40 seconds.

Someone left the cake out in the rain,
I don't think I could take it, `cause it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no!

Hmmm lemme think ... forgive me as I'm gonna use artistic liberty and add some campish versions etc to see how they sit ... too many metalheads runnin' this show methinks :p

George Thorogood & The Destroyers - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer

That thingy about the breakfast discussion about what was going on up on the bridge before someone jumped off it ... Choctaw Ridge?

Finlandia - Sibelius

nah, I'm already out of ideas ... currently listening to Bananarama so its a bit tricky, like patting my head and rubbing my stomach
